hi all some weeks back aquired new rotel rc 972 pre amp ,at the time i only had the rotel 985mk1 5 channel power amp , having just sold my rotel 981 2 channel sterio power amp.

the idea was to use rc972 with 985 +cd player for sterio ,3802 for av, (just swopping speaker cables over)

found the rotel combo a bit bright for my tastes so sold on 985.

i thought i would try 972 vs 3802 pre amp section ,dealer suggested i link up as follows.

cd+972, i/c from 972 (the power amp connections) to 3802s external decoder r/l set to ex dec and play cd etc,

doing this in my mind the cd replay runs through 972 then the 3802s pre amp so am i in fact really trying the 972 pre or not.

another suggestion was to take preout from 3802 to feed into a input on 972, but trying this methode cannot get any sound from 972.

any enlightenment on above would be helpfull thank you
