    Separated Twins Marry Each Other

Twins separated at birth have married each other without realising they were brother and sister, it has been revealed.

Case has thrown up fertility treatment issues
The British couple's marriage has now been annulled by the High Court after judges ruled the marriage had never validly existed.

The identities of the brother and sister and details of how they fell in love and married are being kept secret.

Soon after they were born they were separated and adopted by different families.

Neither was told they had a twin and had no idea they were blood relatives until after their wedding.

Pam Hodgkins from Adults Affected by Adoption said: "Incest is one of the strongest taboos in our society. But we are always attracted to a partner who is like us.

"And nobody can be more similar than a biological twin."

They met later in life and felt an inevitable attraction."

A little pedantic perhaps, but identical twins are 'more similar' than a biological brother and sister twinset

    Too pedantic.

A pair of identical twins would be unable to conceive a child together after all.

    Perhaps, will try harder.

Hmm, at the moment maybe, but the way reproductive science is heading, it won't be long.

And surely biological twins who are separated at birth are different because of all the nature/nurture stuff. ie if you cloned somebody, the off-spring would be different to the original because personality etc is all down to how the child is raised rather than biology? Thus twins separated at birth would not be at all similar?

Personality is partly genetic, its all dependent on how the brain grows, the genetic side is to do with parts of the brain controlling stress etc which will be very similar in twins, they will also have such parts as likes & dislikes which is basically the form of genetic memory. I was thinking earlier about how they fell in love etc, now i bet the reason they fell in love was because they ''felt'' a connection with eachother, ie like a soulmate but on a higher level as these 2 people were both genetically matched twins, I bet they're now a little skeptical about why they fell in love with eachother in the first place. As for conceiving children, it can happen, especially with religions practising it for 100's of years (brethren to name a few)
I couldnt imagine how they must've felt when they found out this though:rolleyes:

They may have different social backgrounds and education, but they would be physically very similar.

There has been quite a lot of research which shows that rather than opposites attracting, people are usually most attracted to people of similar attractiveness and physical traits. There are also complex underlying biological issues such as pheromones and the like which couples subconciously use when deciding on a partner.

As for the nature / nurture thing... I'm strongly of the opinion that nature has far more impact on physical attractiveness and personality, which would be the primary factors in a couple being attracted to each other.

How would identical twin sisters or identical twin brothers conceive a child?

I have boy-girl twins. It is surprising how many people ask if they are identical. When you think about it, you realise how daft that question is. ;)

I wouldn't worry, as I mentioned it is surprising how many people ask.

Including one of the health visitors who swore blind to us that you could have boy-girl identical twins.

On the physical attraction side, My partner mentioned something thats quite interesting, apparently women look for a guy who matches looks of a grandparent (male side), me being me, i asked a few women and they all agreed that they for some reason have an attraction to the features, It's amazing that 5 years ago i studied psychology and havent thought about it till today, but it rings a bell on the same idea as freud's theory of the born child finding an attraction with the opposite sexxed parent and then going through brain development and realising that the attraction is a no-go!:lesson:

Technically it could happen, but would require a mutation in the genes that code for maleness in one of the very early embryos, just after they had separated. Now I'm being pedantic of course :D the odds of it actually happening are extremely low.

:hiya: Hi Squiffy, I know exactly what you mean. I have twin boys who look nothing like each other apart from they are the same hight and normally end up wearing the same clothing.

Usually when asked if they are twins I end up replying: "No, he's 3 months older than his brother". To which I generally get an understanding nod of agreement.

Apart from the morbid fascination (how did they find out - both tracking down biological parents and meeting them in the same cafe etc kind of thing) - I just feel incredibly sorry for them.

Their child was born with four arms and a banjo in each one.

    I'm sorry, I really am.

Sorry but I am sceptical about this story.

A politician, David Alton, with an angle to sell, mentioned that a judge mate of his (nameless) told him about this sad case (nameless) which happened to back up his political view. It is now in the public domain as a fact.

It may well be true, but until Max Clifford has this couple - with photos - on the front page of The News of the World I refuse to believe it.

    I totally agree with you.
Its the fact they were twins: not just brother and sister. If two seperated twins could end up getting married there must be stacks of non-twin broters and sisters who've tied the knot.

I reckon they threw the "identical twin" fact in to further sensationalise the story. No real facts either ( not that I'd read that load of bum wad) .

Wow that must make you really old, and they had colour back then?..., does not seem like technology has not changed much given that 40 year or so has passed still seems were stuck in the past technology wise, I bet back then you were thinking we'd have space ships by now...heh....

:lesson: As for colour photography. It has been around for quite some time (but only really took off circa 1936).
