Your iPod does not have sifficient amplification for large open backed headphones like the HD570s. The HD570s are designed for home listening and not portable use. Sorry to say this but you bought the wrong headphones for the wrong job.

Did you buy them from a store? Did you listen to them before purchasing?

Crustyloafer is exactly right, I have HD570s too and whilst they do sound good they need a fair bit of juice to get them particularly loud.

Something like the Sennheiser PX100 or PX200 will probably sound better with your Ipod and will certainly go much louder. :)

I also have a pair of HD570's and whilst they sound best with some juice or on a proper set-up I think they have suffcient volume when using an iPod. When using my iPod I have the volume set about 3/4 of the way and that is certainly loud enough. You have bought a quality pair of headphones though and I would enjoy them.

Theres absolutely no way an ipod will drive HD570's properly.

I have tried my Beyerdynamic DT531's on the ipod (250 ohm) and they sound pathetic on that.

If you want a pair of full sized cans that sound good from an ipod, and can be driven to moderate levels (note not headbanging levels) then I recommend the Goldring DR150, which sound surprisingly good with the ipod.
