I'm about to order some Sennheiser HD595s after hearing good things about them on AV Forums but have two areas I'd like advice on:

Do they leak that much - enough to annoy the other half if we're in the same room?

I don't consider myself to have large ears but I guess they're not small either - do the 595s fit comfortably around the ear as opposed to some I've tried that rest onto the edge of some of the ear making them uncomfortable after a time?

    Any comments appreciated

dont know about the leakage as the wifes normally in another room when i'm listening, but i dear say that they are no worse than any other open headphones.
i suppose i've a sort of average bonce so i can say they are very comfy and sound good with music and film.
think i paid 99 notes for mine from play.com...think they still have them.
    worth it me thinks :smashin:

I am not a user but have heard them once, and to me they seem great phones, I suspect you will love them. Fit was fine and leakage wasn't an issue, as no one else was in the room!

    Cheers for the comments.

OK, the comfort issue has won the day for me. Just hope the other half doesn't mind a little bit of leakage... :smashin:

I guess that depends where and when the leakage occurs. :rotfl:

The HD595 leak by the bucketful (both in and out), but sound quite brilliant, and even go quite loud with my portable gear. The plush velour pads make them very comfortable too, but I'd only wear them away from people, so as not to annoy them too much...

I had resisted the leakage joke... :D

Hmm, just need to weigh up my priorities then - comfort & listening pleasure or... no dinner

Anyone know a good closed back alternative that are nice and comfy with good performance?

Couldn't you buy your misses a set of earplugs ?

The Sennheiser HD280 pro's closed backs are getting good write ups - for around a £100. :smashin:

I needed closed back for the same reason and I've just bought a pair of AKG K271 Studio 'phones. I'd borrowed a pair from a neighbour for a couple of weeks while he was on holiday and I thought they sounded very good, although I must caveat that by saying that I didn't try out any other brands. I bought them for £85 including P&P, which seemed a pretty good price.

They seem very comfortable - I had them on for about three hours the other day with no discomfort. They seem to fit comfortably over my (average sized) ears. My ears were quite hot afterwards (not uncomfortably so) but I guess that's the case with all full size 'phones.
