Hi, would appreciate your advice on the best way to reluctantly sell my hi fi equipment, this is due to illness.

    Rega Planar 3
    Musical Fidelity A3 integrated amp
    Musical Fidelity A3 CD player
    Maranta DR 6000 CD recorder
Monitor Audio Studio 20 SE speakers
    All associated hi end cables

    Sell separately? eBay? Other options?

    Many Thanks
    John

All nice pieces of kit, I would have a look on eBay sold items to see what they go for and decide on a price you are happy with then to start with list in the classifieds on here (note the rules on here, all comes in the thread until deal agreed, no PM discussions). I have also had a good response from selling stuff on Facebook marketplace. Neither of these cost anything so nothing lost. I would personally provide prices for individual items and then a slightly discounted price for the lot.

I also like to be fully upfront with condition, take decent photos and highlight defects, this should save any issues with the sale.

    Good luck.

Once you have a ball park asking price then list them on the classified on here. It's a safe place to sell and I've sold several things quickly lately. There are rules to be followed so ask if you want help.

I'm sorry to hear of your illness.

I haven't used the classifieds section on this forum, but have used pink fish. However you do need a certain number of posts there to qualify.
My advice would be definitely sell separately - your combination is your personal choice, no-one else's - and don't expect too much. Age, condition, boxes and packaging, the ability to post/courier are all plus points.

what safeguards are in place to stop scammers on the classifieds here?
if selling on ebay is it best to only take bids from people with say 10 or more positive feedback?
    any other selling tips?

Buying on here is pretty safe, nothing is 100% guaranteed but the Mods that have control over the classified are very vigilant. Trading percentages can only be given by members and someone that sells on here with a 100% trading rating can be considered to be very trustworthy. You can click on the person's user name under the avatar and see their trading rating.

I would point out though that it is against Forum rules to start a conversation about selling or purchasing outside of the classifieds.

I would have thought an honest seller would be safer selling on here than on ebay. Ebays buyer protection makes it all too easy for scammers and timewasters to leave sellers out of pocket even when they have been 100% upfront and honest about everything.

i do a lot of small business on eBay but the larger transactions especially as an honest seller do worry. but there is a bigger audience on eBay
i'll maybe see how i get on here first

    Morning John,

Sorry to hear about your illness. If I may be so bold, is there any possibility you could store or keep them for now and give yourself some time to mull things over? I’d hate for you to rashly sell everything only to find that later on you could have kept it.

I have Motor Neurone Disease, which is terminal and currently incurable. I don’t know what you have, nor obviously am I going to ask, I’m just urging you to give it some consideration, that’s all. I love my hifi and AV set up, and it is there for now, but also further on down the line when I will be permanently bed and wheelchair bound.

    Look after yourself.
