hiya: Rob.....so good to see a fellow Scot has the sense to go CRT as well!!!!
I was beginning to think it was only the "down-South" boys who were into the CRT's.
I'm in Falkirk by the way.
I'm the guy with the "ill" Seleco SDG700 and I'm desparetly hoping for some forum help. It's only done 1448 for goodness sake.
I must admit to be a bit disappointed in Seleco/Sim2 Italy though!!!!
I have been suffering serious withdrawal symptons without my CRT in my "toy room" and I was getting fed up with the 51" rear projection in my lounge - difficulty getting it off the wife's "soap" channels - so on Friday I took the plunge and bought a SVP 400plus from Neill at Audio Vision off Ebay. They say it's in fine condition - 4885 on the clocks - and was taken in as a trade in and "one careful lady owner" etc., etc., the usual..... so I'll reserve judgement until I get it, supposed to be Tuesday.
I'll soon be able to "life-size" tackle the footie guys again!
The guys at Audi Vision seem o.k. though!

Curiosity - how much did you pay? (PM me if you dont wanna go public with that info)

Have you seen the tubes without lenses on?

and of course....your old unit? what you doing with it?
it could be the only unit to fill in the missing info in the file.....

:hiya: how do I "PM" you?????

Don't mind going public........but give me an idea what you would reckon is a fair price......once you let me know that info I'll immediately post the exact price I paid.

Bill

:hiya: As promised: I paid £333.33 for the svp400+ inclusive of shipping to Scotland.
I have, as yet, no idea what it is like. It is due to arrive Tuesday.
I am assured it is definitely a shop trade-in from a HOME-CINEMA guy and NOT a pub machine....but I'll reserve judgement.
It is reported in A1 condition.
With remote.
With instruction manual.
With ceiling mount (although I still have my SDG700 mount)
The tubes are reported to have done 4880 hours.
To answer your question on my SDG700.....I am VERY, VERY, VERY reluctant to dispose of it yet as I dOooooooooo know it is a great machine.
Ironically I have just had an email from a guy in Australia with a 700 as well, guess what......same problem as mine, power supply, although his one just won't power up!

CRT forever!!!!!!!!.......Bill

:smashin: UPDATE: thought it may be of interest that the SVP400+ is absolutely superb in every way.
Despite that I've also found a replacement SDG700 -typical - so I've decided to buy that as well - that kind man MR Frost is in pole position for the set-up!
No doubt the svp 400+ will be looking for a good new home soon.
If anyone interested - I would not be wanting PROFIT!!!!!!!!

Mrh - what's up with the 400HT that makes it parts only or is it undiagnosed?

Also - how bout trying to include details of which remotes work with which models, which are interchangeable etc.

My parts 400HT.....

Has a power supply issue - so I was told.
No Tubes, No lenses BUT
it does have line doubler etc so if you had say a 310,350 etc thenyou could make the 400 work as they are based on the same psu - AS I UNDERSTAND, CHRIS is the best person to check this with..........His info is far more detailed than mine....this is why I started the file so everyone could pool info on a great range of projectors....

will look into the remotes as you mentioned it.

Was the rest of the file any use to you?

Yes - it's really useful as a reference. Definately keep updating it! Just looking through other threads , the remote info would help those that have 'acquired' older selecos without accessories find the right one!

I will add some.

The main bits of use I think are the lens types - which I will eventually get round to adding possible upgrades, tube types which again can be upgraded, and remotes, maybe even ceiling bracket types......

Remotes:

SVP310/320/350 (all variants) supplied with the RC3500 consumer remote (cream. 4 coloured teletext control buttons)

SVP390/400/420/450 & SVD500/800 (all variants) supplied with the RC3100 consumer remote (cream) and the RC3000 installation remote (black, back illuminated, R,G & B 'cut off' buttons, cable connection via 3.5mm stereo jack socket).

All three remotes are interchangeable, but functionality is limited by the features of the projector.

SDG700/790/900 supplied with an RC1100 customer remote (black, minimum buttoms) and an RC1000 installation remote (black, back illuminated, R,G & B 'cut off' buttons, cable connection via 3.5mm stereo jack socket).

I'll post some pictures of what I've got when I get chance.

Brackets:
All Seleco CRT projectors came supplied with a ceiling bracket.

SVP3xx/4xx & SVD500 all use the same bracket. Will only fit models in this range.

SVD800 uses a unique bracket.

SDG700/790/900 all use the same bracket. Will only fit models in this range.

A big thank you to Bill (100949football), Chris (chris9682) and Darren (Popeye) for the additional info

Tube Wear.

You're new to CRT and keen to get your first projector. You've read up and got a shortlist of models; now you start your search.

I would always recommend starting with the better known CRT dealers and the classified section of the enthusiast forums like AV Forums. Buying from these sources you'll have the best chance to view before you part with your cash.

You might also be tempted by the online auction sites - plenty of choice and some attractive prices - and there have been some genuine bargains too. However, you are often buying from a picture and relying on the accuracy of the sellers description as you bid your money. One persons idea of very good condition can be different to another.

If a tube genuinely looked this good I'd say it was very close to brand new. However, this picture was taken using the flash on the camera.
118306342.jpg

This is what the tube really looks like. It's still useable, but it's a 5/10 rather than a 10/10
118306395.jpg

Fungus

We call it fungus, but it's really just a reaction between the glycol cooling fluid and the metal alloy. This seems to affect 7" tubes more than 8" or 9".

What's happened is that the paint covering the metal inside the tube face has started to breakdown leaving bare metal exposed. A crystalized sludge starts to form obscuring the lihght from the phosphor.

The early warning signs are poor focus on the bottom half of the picture. Eventually the picture from the affected tube will look like its projecting through fog.

Here's what an affected tube looks like.
118310892.jpg

The problem can be fixed. Here is the same tube after it has been stripped, cleaned and reassembled.
