They need a pair of powered speakers situated close to their sitting positions in order to hear the telly.

The audio phono sockets on the back of the TV work OK when tested with an old hifi amplifier & speakers, but unless the speakers and volume controls are close to their sitting positions they would not / could not use it.

Such speakers would need to be rather more substantial than a pair of cheapo PC speakers.

    Any thoughts on this appreciated.

    Thanks

Check these out at Maplin. Don't know if they have individual volume controls so you may need to pop into your local store or call them.
