club swipe card entry, 400 cards in circulation to members, all entries stored on pc, names of members linked to card nos. cards can be deactivated or activated, pc is updated with all door entries including card no. and name from door entry swipe box.
PC crashes, private pc buff says hard disc is corrupted so supplies new pc but says cannot transfer security programme database and details of card nos linked to members from old pc to new one. but does transfer MS Access databases of membership.
He said that club will have to buy security software from original company.
If true does this happen every time pc is replaced.
    Any body help please

Surely if the software was purchased, you'd just need to obtain a copy of the software and transfer the licence to the new PC.

We've done this several times with software, as long as they have you on their database (which they should do) they should do it, only issue, would be if the OS was updated and your original software doesn't run on a later OS, then look at an upgrade.

thanks for your reply. I have just been told that the chap who replaced the club pc said that the security system was not on the hard disc of defunct pc which is very strange as it was being used prior to it crashing and deemed to be corrupted by him. The co. who installed the system have been notified but if they reinstall the same system then all info. which was saved onto it of members names and swipe card nos. are lost according to pc repair man. Any idea how the security software has disappeared but all other files and MS Office Access data base has been copied on to new pc. I am baffled, I am not a pc expert. the old pc has been brought back to the office.

    Sounds strange.
Maybe the guy just didn't look in the right place.
If you get the HDD drive out of the old system, you can look at it's contents with an external docking station.
Something like this would do it for under £8 if its an IDE or Sata drive (probably IDE if its quite old).
Dynamode USB - IDE/SATA Storage Converter Kit USB-SI-C

Once you get it connected to another pc, you can have another look, and if required use recovery software to have a look, if it has been deleted some how.
