    Hello!

I'm moving to France next week, and my analogue video8 camcorder has just broken. I need to transfer the tapes to DVD (probably using a DVD recorder) and my parents in law have a French Secam video8 camcorder. Will this play my PAL tape, (I know that my VHS VCR plays secam tapes perfectly but in black and white!!)

    thanks, Duncan

It plays it in monchrome because the crucial difference between PAL and SECAM is the method of transmission of chroma information on the colour subcarrier.
Get the model number of the French machine and you should then be able to check whether or not it is PAL compatible - many are.
