I recently bought a new sub for my car and have been digging out some of my old CDs to test the bass quality.

I have been listening to one of my Seal albums, and the song "fly like an eagle" is a hell of a song for bass. I just wish all music could be of the same standard. The sub is a Boston 10" in an sealed box, very clean, powerful, punchy sound.

Can anybody recommend any other artists/albums, similar to Seal, with great bass?

I've only got the first seal album (with 'killer' etc)

Sounds like the sub is crying out for Leftfield - quite dubby, but well recorded. 'Leftism' is superb, the greatest dance album IMO.

Massive Attack have very impressive bass, but not as poppy as Seal.

Some of Peter Gabriels stuff is punchy and well recorded.

    Ta for the replies

Leftism, pretty sure i've got that in my collection, i'll dig it out - from what I remember there was few tracks on their I liked but the rest didnt really do anything for me. Having said that, I didnt give it chance - as you will know, some albums take 2 or 3 listens to grow on you. It's probably one of them. Got some of Massive Attacks albums, I particularly like Blue Lines. Some excellent bass.

    Any others guys?

Leftfield's 'Rhythm and Stealth' has some seriously low and drawn out bass notes that make your innards vibrate.
That would be a very good test, but musically I don't really rate it as much as Leftism. In fact I only play it to test my bottom end (oo-er missus).

    soundstyle and huwg,

cheers for the recommendations. I may be tempted to try both albums. I have one of Sade's older albums which is pretty mellow (from what I remember), but I havent heard much of their new stuff, i'll give it a try!

if you like the Orb, check this out - it's Dr Alex Paterson's solo album, quite ambient in parts, but the bass is awesome -

Moby - 18. Another of my collection with some excellent bass. Takes a few listens to get into it though.

Any others you folks can think of?
