Well I have just come off the phone with Hayden Labs and they still are saying they are not ready to roll out the Second Edition DenonLink upgrade for the A1-SR. They said it would be in a couple of weeks, and they have been saying that since April of this year.

Whats really getting to me is that a senior enginner told me in April they had all the stuff to do the upgrade and they had tried a couple without any problems. So what is the damn hold up.

They are also now insiting that it has to be done via the supplier.

    All in all very unsatisfactory

    Keep you posted

    Hi Phil.
I've been really annoyed about this for so long that I've vowed never to buy another Denon product again!

I had the initial upgrade 12 months ago at a cost of £600 to give me the facility to use the digital link.... and I'm still waiting.
It is frankly one notch worse than a disgraceful, disgusting disregard for their flagship customers. They clearly don't care!
I'm pretty sure we could have 'em under the trades description act here.
I don't believe a word they say, and I bet we'll be posting the same stuff here again in 2 weeks time.

Does anyone have an A1SR with SE link that they might be prepared to swap for my upgraded A1SE + a few bob?
(That way I'm not giving Denon any additional business).

I'm so annoyed! Does anyone know how we can take this further?

Jules - try writing to a Magazine about it! Preferably one of the bigger ones, Denon listen to them.

Just spoken to Roger at Haydon.

He assured me a brief was being prepared for their dealer network as we spoke, and that the upgrades will be going ahead in about 10 -14 days at the outside.

He said they were ready in spring, but couldn't implement the procedure because of changes brought about by the merger with Marantz.

They have plenty of flight cases, but the upgrades will be carried out on a first come first served basis.
However, he suggested that for people like m,e and Phil, who have been waiting ages, will be given priority.
We just need to let the dealer know in advance.

He also confirmed there would be no cost whatsoever if you own the amp and DVD A1.

One thing that was of slight concern for me... They've tested the procedure for A1SR's but not yet for upgraded A1SE's.... the procedure is slightly different.
They'll be running a test for the A1SE's on Wednesday, and expect it to be plain sailing.... but you never know.
He said though, that if they encounter any problems, he'd give me ring.

All in all, it really does sound like they are beginning make some progress... and about bloody time!

I'm off to my dealer to book my priorty slot.

Lets keep fingers crossed Jules and I will be on the dealer about getting a priority apointment.

Roger was unavailable last week when I called.

Okay guys, whilst talking to a very reputable chappie at Hayden last week, he informed me that the dealers should be informed of the SE upgrade this week. He also informed me that, as you all well know, if you own the DVD-A1 and A1-SR or KAVC-A1SE then the upgrade will be FOC. Get your orders in quick.

Sorry for being a bit thick here but what is the purpose of this 'upgrade'? I have recently bought an ex-demo A1-SR and haven't even looked at the Denon Link. Is this only of use if you have the matching mega expensive Denon DVD players and those by quite a lot of accounts are 'a bit pony', so to speak.

Should I be bothered if I have no desire to buy a Denon DVD player or are there any other benefits to this 'upgrade'.

Intrigued (well, not really but thought I'd ask just to be sure)

    Best regards

    simon

Well, as the man from Hayden said, I got my call this week to book in my amp, full SE here I come.

    Simon,

The Denon link is used only for linking to suitable Denon DVD players; currently this is only the DVD-A1, however, there are already mumblings that this might be rolled out to other Denon DVD players, such as the next replacement for the 2900?

What we are all talking about here is the SE (Second Edition) of the Denon link. This allows full data (even on copy protected discs) to be passed to the A1-SR (or KAVC-A1SE) for decoding of DVD-A.

    Hope this helps.

    Ian.

mmm.. despite making a 'priority' appointment with my dealer just before the official annoucement, I've still not heard a peep from them yet.

Anyone been asked to take their amp in?

I'd like to know if my dealer has forgoten me or if Denon are again dragging their heals at the final hurdle.
