SDHC Cards in older readers

Well.... Lost my dongle  I couldn't read my SDHC cards via USB and to make matters worse, also lost an 8GB SDHC card at the same time...
I've always understood older readers can't cope with SDHC cards, and the SD slot in my Inspiron 6000 certainly didn't understand them. Suppliers even give readers away with some SDHC cards. But I thought I'd have a dig about the web since there isn't anything fundamentally mysterious about SDHC.
I came across this, which is a Microsoft Hotfix for XP that purports to allow SDHC cards to be read. And it WORKS! Certainly on my machine:

Clearly use at your own risk, but it is a Microsoft fix...
