I have just had a look round the big four suppliers and only Argos seem to be selling a SD freesat box now, for £48.89. I was think of getting one to replace the old Sky box that died in the bedroom. I have an old 28" CRT up there and when it dies I will move the SD plasma from the living room so it is unlikely HD will make it upstairs soon. I though of a second hand sky from fleebay but they could be unreliable.

The difference in manufacturing cost between SD and HD boxes is quite small now so people think about reducing the number of lines they stock.

I got the reference in your quote BTW. :smashin:

Perhaps it's getting to the point that mass-production of mpeg4 chipsets which are backwards compatible with mpeg2 is reaching the point where the only reason for a major STB price difference is the perceived premium from the market itself.
