Forgive me for asking this, as ive been out of the loop for a while in this area of technology.

I'm looking for a new TV, around 37" - 42" in size, and was wondering about LED backlighting, as it looks pretty good.

Is there a list of LED backlit screens around?

    Thanks. :)

    Samsung LE-52F96BDX ( 52" Full HD LCD TV )

Only one I know of at this point in time.

PS. There is a 70" version of the above too - just replace 52 with 70

    Cheers:hiya:

has anyone any idea when the first 26 or 32" sets will be released with the LED technology? I know of the Sammys but they are larger sized.

Why would they limit one of the major breakthroughs and problem solvers in LCD technology to just the larger sets? That doesnt make sense.

I for one would be happy to pay a premium for a set that on which blacks are truly black, and with a uniform blacklight completely free of any clouding.

It will come to smaller sets (it'll be in LCD monitors sometime soon) but will probably take a while while the manufacturers gouge the early adopters for as much cash as they can

Me too. I was excited to hear about the F96 series, and then really disappointed when it became clear that it would only be available in 52" and 70" sizes :(

I'd love to have L.E.D. backlighting, but I don't think I'm going to be able to wait - I'm very tempted by the Samsung LE46F86.

It's already in LCD monitors! There's a 20" LCD available (Samsung Syncmaster XL20) for computers. It's ridiculously priced though around £700. The problem is Samsung seem to have the monopoly on these LEDs as they are the only ones producing them currently. Once a few more manufacturers get in on the act, it's bound to drive prices down to a much more acceptable level.

How many flashing 'slow down', 30MPH signs & traffic lights have you seen where the LED's have failed. Lets hope they dont us the the same tech in TV's because those signs dont last more than a few months...:)

Problem is manufactures are cheapening out the 26 and 32 where ever possible. This is because the average consumer is only interested in one thing, big bang for the buck (as in he or she simply want the biggest screen for the lowest price and don’t care about the panel or the backlight technology). I don’t know if you're aware but the cheap TN panels are invading mid-sized and large screen because of that fact. I doubt you’ll see many (quality) 26” and 32” in the near future.

PS: If you look closely, the panel technology inside most 26” LCD TVs are quite old. So do you really think they are gonna put locally dimmable (or even a mono) LED backlight and increase the average price by 50-60%?

LEDs can last for long time but they can fail (just like dead pixels on FPDs)
