Does anyone know if the naughty rainbow effect is present in this unit???
I want to upgrade my AE100 and I am looking at the Z2 or the AE500!But the bloke in sevenoaks reccommends me looking at the Screenplay SP4800. High lumens, high contrast ratio etc.
I know the debate goes on and on re AE500 and Z2, but I do suffer from the rainbow effect last time I looked at an OPTOMA unit.

    Cheers

    Chris

The guy said the infocus was a short throw machine, hmmmmm.
Need to look at the specs again.
I really hate the rainbow effect but have heard great things about the Z2 and the AE500.

The Screenplay 4800 is the same as the X1 (which is available for £750 - various places). It uses a 3 (4 in data) segmant colour wheel at 2X speed (bad rainbows). Also the lens is no where near the short throw of the Panny 500 or Z2.

My friend has an X1, which has steared me towards LCD. Panny 500 is great value from Germany at around £1080 but has no lens shift. It does have addition of scart (for use with say freeview box) which the Z2 does not.

Contrast on the X1 is excellent but is no compensation for the rainbows on this budget (slow colour wheel) machine IMHO.

    Hope this helps.

Its a means of moving the projected image up/down & left/right by adjusting the lens not moving the projector. Meaning the pj can be located off center and at a height that is convenient. It does it without degrading the picture.

And no, your 100 doesnt have it, but I'm happy to say my Z2 does.:) It saved me a lot of bother as I had ignored the advise of "don't put the pj mount and screen up until you've got the pj" :suicide:

Sorry, I knew that. And that is why they are the other two options. LCD so no rainbows :)
OK, Z2 or AE500 it shall be as soon as I demo them...
What did you have before the Z2? And is it a quantum leap..

I had an AE300. The upgrade was marked but I wouldn't say a quantum leap. My main reason for changing was I didn't like the softness of the 300's image due to its' SDE-eliminating feature (whatever it was called), coupled with a need for a pj with lens shift.

I tried an NEC HT1000 which IS a quantum leap above both, but the rainbows got to me :( so I settled for the Z2 .. for now. ;)

Is it worth the extra over the Z2/AE500 I wonder, on paper it doesn't seem to be but then if every pj performed according to its' specs.
