Will i get a better picture using a dvd player that upscales to HD format even though the 4805 will accept the signal and play at native resolution. I ask because i want to upgrade my dvd player and quite like the toshiba sd350 or denon 1920.

Well it really depends how good you current player is and how your feeding the signal into the 4805.

I would imagine (all things being equal) that it should look better. Others might correct me if i'm wrong but you don't have to send a HD resolution signal to the PJ. You can still send it 576p or 480p from either of the DVD players.
