Somebody mentioned this in another thread I started a couple of weeks back. That LCD Projectors and Screens with High Brightness Gain were an undesirable match. But nobody proceeded to post why.

So, to re-delve into the topic, Why is it undesirable for use with LCD Projectors?

    Thanks for reading.

well for a simply start, a high gain screen will increase the intensity of reflection hence increase black level therefore (possibly) decreasing contrast ratio. With the black level beig the single biggest problem with lcds, unless your output is very low, high gain is not the solution

High gain screens also limit the viewing angle. They work by reflecting more light back in the direction from which it came (like CatsEyes do). The further you are away from the direction of the projector itself, the dimmer the image.

It is also sometimes the case that the granularity of the reflective coating interferes (optically) with the pixel structure of the image.

BUT: They do increase contrast when your decor is unsuitably light.
