I own a Toshiba 28 widescreen TV, 28W8DB (or something like that)...its now coming up to 2 years old.

After about 20-30 mins of the TV being on, it starts to produce a very high pitch scream, that is especially sensitive to large white areas on the screen. After about 10 mins, it goes away

Now, I have noticed this in the past with just about every other TV set I have owned, and other than the generic THUMP on the top of the set, I have never really understood what this noise was all about.

I have pointed this noise out to my in-laws, who say they can't hear a thing! Am I the only one who claims to have dog's hearing??

Im just look for (a) why this noise happens (and gets worse!) and (b) what to do to improve it

    Cheers

You can notice the whine that 50hz sets make.

Some people can, some cannot. Don't worry about it.

Good news is that 100hz sets don't emit on the same frequency, so get one of those next time.

I can hear the whine and see the flicker on 50hz sets.
