Daughter's got a load of mates round tonight for a big film watch and sleep over, and the sound's gone mad on the HCPC. I will be DEAD if I can't sort this soon!!

Running MAudio 410 as analogue sound card, with WinDVD 4 doing the decoding.
Already watched 2 films today - fine. Started up another, and the sound's coming out very strangely - almost skipping and jumping stuff. Tried different DVDs, then also a CD (also played throught WinDVD) - all the same. So Tried playing CD through Media Player - also the same. Then ran an .MOV from the HD, and it was fine.

So it looks like it's something to do with the DVD drive/signal from it. I guess the other thing to try would be to rip a DVD to HD and try it from there, but that will be new territory foir me, so I'll have a look around. In the meantime, any suggestions?

Well, I have XPHome on that PC, and don't know it that well TBH. The onbly place I can seem to set the DMA is against the disc controller, and I have it set to DMA if available.
I just ripped a disc to HD with DVD Decryptor, and it worked fine, so it certainly looks like it's a DVDRom thang. I might try swapping out the DVD Drive for another one and see what happens then....

Thanks for the help all. I'm so glad I'm an anorak who has multiple computers scattered around the house - though my wife took one look at her now stripped pc and wailed "my computer!!".

I tell you, I have never seen so much chocolate and junk consumed in one night, but it looks like they all enjoyed themselves (heh heh - went in to check they were all OK, and one girl piped up "do they both get out alive?" in a quivering voice - the power of cinema!).

Now to fix my wife's PC....
