With the US exchange rate being crap, wee choose Scotland this year. First 2 nights booked just outside Glasgow, other than that it's of the cuff once more.
A1 to Scotch Corner then hung a left stopping a coupe of times on route.
Next day we took a short train ride to grand central.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503345456780.jpg

    Laughed at this.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503345508959.jpg

On to the cathedral then Necropolis.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503345644260.jpg
    uploadfromtaptalk1503345565486.jpg

Passed by artwork on the walls.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503345803481.jpg

    Then into the gallery.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503345833662.jpg

Took the train closer to the Riverside Museum. I had one of these as a kid.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503345934214.jpg

Around the time by big bro had one of these.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503345980432.jpg

Sadly just one crane now stands on the Clyde.

    Short walk to another museum.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503346219269.jpg

Just in time for the organ recital. No pressure dude in the white shirt.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503346282711.jpg

Lots to see and no charge anywhere so far.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503346372202.jpg

Finished the day with some cocktails and a burger in hard rock.

Today we headed through the highlands past the Lochs. Stumbled across a steam boat that had just left. So had a brew instead.

    uploadfromtaptalk1503346835741.jpg

One thing we wanted to see was the mirror man. Thought he would be bigger. Looked like T2 after a skin full.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503346962692.jpg

    Onwards towards Oban.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503347071242.jpg
    uploadfromtaptalk1503347112394.jpg

Fully booked almost everywhere, so went 5m out to Connel. Lovely view from the room. Head a short walk before the drizzle.

    Off to Mull tomorrow.

Great series of pictures - you should get a job for the Scottish Tourist agency. Being a Scot it's great to see lots of positives about our nation.

Couldn't resist mussels from the shack before dinner.

Then a walk around the harbour before chilling in the room.

We did a similar road trip in June. We stayed in Whitby for 3 nights, then drove to Fife and stayed overnight then on to Pitlochry, then on to Inverness for a couple of days. Stayed in Fort William, did Oban and I also had the Mussels at the harbour, a bargain at £3.95. Then went down to Edinburgh and the Lothians for 5 nights. By the time we got back home in Herts we had done 1750 miles. It was a fantastic trip and we both realised that we had forgot how beautiful our Country is. We will be heading over to America in October, just love it there too.

Headed north past more Lochs and mountains.

Some one spent time balancing rocks.

    Over the bridge to Skye.

Got to the distillery, my son likes this one. Long wait for the tour so made a purchase then skipped it.

After a big loop we left Skye the way we came.

Found a guest house close to this castle.

Great pictures, thinking of doing a trip up the West coast in September inc Mull and Skye . Did you encounter the troublesome midges...

We have loads of Deet with us but surprisingly we haven't needed it yet. Saw a few in the guest house garden last night, other than that, none so far.

Onward north. This place reminds me of where 007 and M stopped for a wiz on the way to Skyfall.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503588030966.jpg

The road hugged the coastline with great views and places to stretch our legs.

A few more of Ullapool. 17:30 to Stornoway.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503603148358.jpg

    Walk along the shore.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503603178819.jpg

Had dinner in a pub then walked back. Place looks so different now the tide is in.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503603420202.jpg
    uploadfromtaptalk1503603509050.jpg

    Such clear water.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503603456108.jpg

Edit: tried a 12 year single malt. Nope, still don't like it.

Yep, we'll keep heading north. Wife has heard of nice beaches further up. As pretty rocks and peddles are, we need some sand.

We spend a lot of time touring Scotland in our Motorhome and are currently heading down. We are 40 miles north of Ullapool (picture 6)

Two of our favourite beaches are Oldmoreshore (picture 5) and Balnakeil (first beach in really nice but head over the sand dune in the distance and you will find a second beach which is the one in the first four pictures)

Unfortunately the weather is not looking too good for the next few days.

A lady in a coffee shop told us to head for the beach near Durnees. Thanks for pin pointing it. May get to the other on the way up. The weather is so changeable as you know but it's not an issue really.

Well if you like coffee shops you should pay a visit to cocoa mountain and have some coffee and expensive chocolates. Smoo caves is also worth a visit.

    Enjoy.

We are just pulling in to rooms as the fancy takes us. From Oban to here the "No" signs are displayed in towns but there are vacancies just outside. Trivago and Google etc have been of no use so far. Keeping our eyes peeled is working so far. If all else fails, it's a night in the car.

North again to a beach at Achmelvich Bay with a couple of stops.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503678498215.jpg

    Beautiful.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503678315245.jpg

    Crystal clear sea.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503678365188.jpg
    uploadfromtaptalk1503678438142.jpg

Carried on north after a couple of hours in the sun.

Most of the roads were single track with passing places. Passed a roadside drinking hole, but I wasn't thirsty enough to try it ;)

Onward to Durness, found accommodation in a farm house BnB.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503679177058.jpg

Had a mug of chocolate where @bigjb mentioned.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503679287475.jpg

Cat had no table manners ;)
    uploadfromtaptalk1503679697256.jpg

Then down to the beach. Again, clear sea and white sand.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503679399218.jpg

Walked over the hill and down the dunes to the beach on the other side.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503679458007.jpg

Wasn't looking forward to the climb back but the tide went out just enough.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503679514792.jpg
    uploadfromtaptalk1503679560667.jpg

    Up close with some locals.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503679656135.jpg

    There's a zip line across a cove, I'll pass.
    uploadfromtaptalk1503679808155.jpg

The only restaurant and bar is a short walk from our BnB, so that's dinner sorted.

The steak pie is nice as is the apple pie.

You are going in the right direction for the weather. We have had torrential rain and thunderstorms for the past two hours.

Hope the weather picks up for you.

Had steak pie yesterday but the apple pie was good. Sirloin not so. Can't fault the Guinness though.

That's the beauty of us having nothing planned or booked.

Going tomorrow to stock up with provisions then check the weather forecast and head in the best direction.

Enjoy the rest of your trip.
