Just got the Pioneer freeview box and wanted to connect it to my Av Amp using S-video from the VCR scart socket.

So, I went to maplins to buy a THOR "Scart to S-Video & 2 RCA"... which I did!
However, its actually wired in the reverse direction.
You'd think if the box is labeled "Scart to S-Video & 2 RCA" then it should wired in that direction. Bloody stupid.....
It should be described as "S-Video & 2 RCS to Scart".

The annoying thing is that neither THOR nor any of the other cable companies seem to sell what I need.
Even more annoying, is that when I actually needed this cable a couple of years ago, they were all sold in the opposite direction (i.e. the direction I need now).

Why don't the manufacturers understand their own products! And why make these cables in only one direction?

Yes, I used to use these, but unfortunately the adapter + cable sticks out too far at the back. There isn't room and it puts a strain on the socket.

I've found that QED still make what I need, but at £50 they can keep it!

I know IXOS used to make a green one for about £25.

I don't know your Freeview box, but before you spend any more money I just thought it might be worth mentioning that the vast majority of UK STB's don't output S-Video - does yours?
Also if it does I would be surprised if it did via the VCR scart as this is (nearly?) always composite only.

Obviously I don't know what other equipment you have connected up, but why do you want to go via the AV amp? Going directly into the TV with an RGB scart would give a far better PQ than you would normally get from S-Video.

As I say, I'm not trying to p:censored:s on your ideas. I'm just trying to prevent you possibly making some expensive mistakes.

Mark, thanks for the advice but the Pioneer DOES output S-Video from the VCR scart.... it's one of the very few that does and one of the reasons I bought it.

The TV scart is RGB going straight to the TV, but the S-Video output will be routed to my amp and from there distributed to everything else... including DVD-R, Projector etc, etc.
I can't do an RGB loop through to the TV either, as my SKY+ box already does that.

I understand your frustration. I sell Thor cables on ebay and have specified the direction in the description. Still many people buy them thinking I am wrong and the box is right.
