My current amp only has SCART outputs and my display has SCART, vga and Component inputs.

I was thinking of sending my amp output to my component switchbox - which would then send the video signal into the display via component.

This would mean the wifey having to press a neatly labelled button instead of having to go through the various inputs on the screen ...

    Does that sound sensible?

Probably not as scart very rarely carries a YUV Component video signal. The chances are that any scart equipment will only output composite video, S-Video or RGBcvS video signals and none of these are compatible with YUV component without hardware conversion.
