The s-video output from my scart breakout box (from my cable box) is actually a composite signal via the s-video connector. Why is this? Why isn't it s-video y/c? Is it my cable box that is outputting composite over s-video, or the breakout box? Do I just need a different breakout box, or do I need to invest in an RGB to s-video transcoder to get s-video y/c?

NTL/telewest boxes dont do S-vid (IIRC) so you need an active converter an RGB to S-vid box look at JS technology site for info.
