    as a newbie to plasmas would like to ask if a video scaler is a neccessary peice of equipment or is it as I think it is needed more for HD sources

    a scaler gets the best out of your display, especialy if you want to watch SD material , SKy/VD etc on a an HD display although most screens can benefit from the improved processing and picture control offered by a scaler..
