Has anyone else had a problem witht the original DVD release of Saving Private Ryan, Region 2? On my copy at around 24 minutes into the film when the americans are taking over the beach there are two or three shots where when there is fire on the screen it goes all the way to the top of the screen and is visible through the people!! Weird at first I though it was a falt on my new PD30 but after trying it on two other setups the problem was the same so it must be the disk. Has anyone else had this problem?

I only paid £3.50 for it anyway so im not too bothered just wanted to know if this is a falt with evey disc and if so is the new DTS version the same or has it been re transfered?

    Hi,

Same with me, both with the original version and also the DTS version.
I thought it was due to my center speaker mounted on top of the TV, but moving it away has no effect.

It does look pretty wierd, maybe it was intentional...?

    Who knows.

How bad is that!! not only is it on the original release but the new one too, thats just awful. I was gonna invest in the DTS version. not unless the DTS track is worth it. I thought the DD track was awsome.

How hard would it have been to sort out the 2 sceens that have the problem. There just plain lazy.

Hey Epswat is the DTS worlds better that the DD track?

Yeah intentional. A filter was used to make it look murky/dull, and also the smearing on the fires as well. Both intentional.

The optical effects on the film do look like mistakes, but were actually devised by the cinematographer & director, to look like effects similar to those suffered by cameras at the time.

Blimey, then why does it only get used twice in the film and not most of the time? in most other sceens with fire it looks fine. It dosint make sence they should have gone the whole hog or not at all.

Nice avatar by the way dsw.

DTS track is very nice, lots of base as most DTs tracks seem to have.

However, you are paying £15 for basically a new soundtrack. As far as I can tell, there are no new addtions to either the film or the extra's.

No comparison necessary - the DTS track is markedly better than the DD (& I am one of the people who is sick of peopple who "must have" DTS). Nice packaging as well.

Do yourself a favour and get hold of the DTS version - people often flog them (R1 up until now) in the sales forum for £10 or so.

Spielberg has had these problems before....

Who can forget the scene he caused at Boots when he collected the original proofs of Schindler's List, only to discover they had developed them in black and white
