It's a Spielberg film,he controls the rights to it,the same as Lucas and Star Wars.
You won't see it this year and probably not next year.
The market saturation of players isn't big enough yet.
It's a bit of a Catch 22 situation though, isn't it?
They won't release them because there aren't enough players out there yet, but then if they released stuff like LOTR, SPR, SW etc, then there'd be a lot more people buying players
Can't these people asking if their favourite film is coming out on Blu-Ray at least have the courtesy of adding a question mark at the end of their thread titles ? It's quite easy to do, just add that ? for goodness sake.
Not that Spielberg needs the cash.
After recently finishing watching Band of Brothers, I'd love to give SPR a spin in HD. The DTS sound was a reference track on DVD so here's hoping for a DTS HD MASTER 7.1 when it is released....
Yep,we were all thinking the film was on the way.
Is Speilberg and Lucas are stopping these getting to blu ray, then why are they airing them on HD movie channels in the states ?
I can't understand why Jackson hasn't done LOTR, its been aired in the states and looked fantastic, I mean King Kong was on HD way back.
LOTR Fellowship is apparently coming to blu this November in it's theatrical form.
Nothing stopping these money grabbing muppets using seamless branching.
Just a thought - Saving Private Ryan was made while SS was at Dreamworks - a company he now appears to have left.
It's possible he will no longer have the clout with the studio to insist that his work isn't released on high def, or that he no longer has the right to insist it isn't now that he's gone.
Saving Private Ryan would be a good one for him to test the water with regarding Blu-ray Disc, too. Whilst being a big-ish film, it's not ET, Jaws or Jurrasic Park.
I think I seen Jaws on Amazon for preorder. No date or price listed. It might be on its way.
But Steve that already happened with Close Encounters if we're talking about dipping a toe into to the water.
Saving Private Ryan is a good film but I'm waiting for AI and Minority Report.
I was hoping one of you knew a release date stupid $pielb£rg . .
Also, lol at confusing you all.
They show it occasionally on Sky HD... looking glorious. No HD soundtrack with that though, obviously.
You can be that content you're not the only one.
Not necessarily Spielbergs fault, it may be that they are way down on a release schedule or actually out by the end of the year all we can do is speculate and guess.
Its on SKY1HD now looking lovely, can't imagine its that far off
when this movie finally comes out on blu I predict at least 10 pages discussing the grain issues.
same for war of the worlds
I watched it too on Sky1 HD, and although it looked much better in comparison to SD Sky1 it still looked far off to what might and could be produced on BluRay.
SkyHD fills the void until that day.
D-day was on the 6th of June 1944 - exactly 65 years ago on Saturday.
