Saving hard drive data

I have a panasonic dvd recorder which is broken.Is it possible to down load and so save my recordings?
I have bought another Panasonic dvd recorder if this will help.

This is not realistically possible with Panasonic units.

In what way is the original broken?

If it will still play material from the hard disk, scart the two machine together to transfer the material. It can only be done in real time.
