The sun was well past the yard arm this morning when I captured this chap.

looks like you've really got the hang of the MPE-65!! i'm still lusting after one but i've spent a fortune on new kit. Very impressed, well done.

Thanks folks. Found it a little bit easier working at 5x today. So regular practise should nail it.

It's the hand-eye co-ordination bit that's really difficult - you can see your subject fine with the naked eye, but when you look through the viewfinder at 5x mag it can be a bugger to find it!

Here's another springtail - trying his best to scuttle off under some moss.
He's about 2 to 3mm bodylength.

Excellent stuff Dave

That second ant shot is really superb. Is that water or were you pulling the old honey trap trick?

I struggle to find the subject at 1:1, can only imagine what its like at 5:1.

Great shots 159 - you seem to be getting the hang of this stuff :smashin:

Watching you stalk tiny insects with your kit must make an amusing scene though :D I bet you talk to them as you shoot too :rotfl:

Saw these on Flickr. The ant shots are amazing, the sharpness & clarity is superb.
