Satellites or bi-poles for rear surround?

Just considering the pros and cons of dedicated HC surround bi-poles or small bookshelf satellites.

As an example, the Wharfedale Diamond 8.1s, which are a smaller cousin to the other Diamond 8s, or the Diamond DFSs, which do all the bi-pole ambience stuff.

I presume there are small advantages in x.1 surround with the dedicated bi-poles but are they worth it?

And can you use the rear surrounds as additional stereo speakers in which case the 8.1 satellites might be better?

i have a Monitor Audio Silver series setup.....i love the SFX speakers, bi/dipolar switchable rear/surrounds......(bi for normal, di for THX films).....in a reasonable to large size room it gives very nice ambience......

in a small room tho it wouldnt make so much difference...in fact it could get a bit confusing possibly even...lol

go on, be a devil, live it up ;0)
