I have a 250Gb SATA drive and wondered if theres such a thing as a partable caddy that I can use that has both a USB 2.0 interface and also a external SATA interface on it ?

Just that my motherboard has a external SATA (ESATA) port on the back and I would sooner use that than the USB 2.0 port

Any ideas ?

Update - I managed to find what I was after but they are a US supplier - P+P is a bit much !

EDIT: Found a UK supplier for one but not sure if they are any good -

I found another one but this one only looks like its a SATA and not SATAII as I have a 3gbs drive:

Hi,

You might as well use a SATA 150 box, because the 3Gb/s connection speed is theoretical. In practice the drive itself will be the limiting factor, so you probably won't be anywhere near exceeding 1.5Gb/s anyway. I don't think there is a commercially available drive that fast yet.

You mean that theres not a drive available that takes advantage of the 3.0gbs yet ?

There are loads of 3.0gbs drives available now - See this thred:

The 3.0gbs part relates to the connection, that is its maximum possible theoretical speed.

One of the fastest SATAII drives is a Western Digital Raptor @10,000rpm and even this cant sustain more than 84Mb/sec according to WD's website. The original SATA interface can handle up to 150Mb/sec, so at the moment this is plenty fast enough for what you had in mind regarding the external box.

Hope this helps:)
