Looks the same as the Z2 except black, good to see it has two component inputs though and HDMI.
Will have to try and sell my Z2 before the value plummet's
Well well well it looks on paper as though the Panasonic ae700 has the z3 beat:
Z3 contrast 1400:1, ae700: 2000:1
Z3 lumens: 800, ae700 1000
PLUS the Panasonic looks much nicer and will be available sooner.
The only question is HOW SOON will the AE700 be available
Did I just ask that question Again ?
True but it comes down to calibarated contrast. And is the z3 using D5 panels?
The reason no-one can answer this question is because no-one knows. All the collective knowledge on the AE700 appears comes from one web page which briefly appeared on the german panasonic before being quickly removed.
Nothing more has been heard of it since, except for re-hashes of the original info.
I know when it will be released. An email I got from Panasonic UK:
Please send me details on your new AE700 lcd projector. It has already
listed for sale on this site:
When will it be released in the UK? Please send me a brochure.
Dear Mr Matthews,
Thank you for your e-mail enquiry. Firstly, please accept my sincere
apologies for the uncharacteristic delay in our response. Due to an
unexpected increase in the number of contacts we have recently received, we
have been unable to provide as speedy a response as we would normally.
In response, I would explain that the PTAE700 is due to be released in
October of this year. We currently do not have any information to send you.
I trust that the above information will be of assistance to you. However,
of course, if you should have any further queries, please do not hesitate
to contact us on 08705 357357 or firstname.lastname@example.org and we will
endeavour to assist.
Got that?: OCTOBER
What we need now is a shootout with the Z3, AE700 and TX100
The winner of these 3 gets my money
The 3 main issues (for me anyway) these 3 need to address is dust blobs (sealed optics), Vertical Banding and black levels. The Panasonic is surely the one to beat.
Don't forget the Sony HS50, if some of the rumours on AVS are true, this might be the best of all No release date yet, but sony have stopped shipping HS20s already.
Could possibly be using their SRXD (LCoS) technology (Little to no screendoor because of the high apperture ratio, good CR)
P.S. Good to hear that Panasonic UK are more on the ball. Rumour has it they hadn't heard about the ae500 arrival until they actually arrived!
This is too much
Tell me Dr Mike, exactly what have you heard about the hs50???? I'm intrigued ;-)
Call me a cynic but i think most people knew that sony had something up their sleeves when the hs20 suddenly dropped £500 overnight
one of these is getting my money most properly the one that comes out first
Only what I've read on avs, but the argument goes like this...
Sony have (apparently) stopped making conventional LCD panels, now, seeing as they make 1000s of RPTVs a year (much bigger than the FP market), they're either a) geared up to make large volumes of their new SRXD chips b) buying LCD panels eg from Epson (not likely) or c) going down the DLP route (even less likely).
The question remains as to whether Sony would put SRXD straight from the $25,000 Qualia 004 into the entry level PJ market. If their main commercial driver is to shift as many SRXD chips as possible (can happen in a vertically integrated business) then going for the low end of the PJ market would make sense as they're not going to sell many units going for the high end.
Arrrggghhhh!!!! Nooooo!!!! Not more - as if the AE700 announcement wasn't enough I hear all of this info just as I'm getting ready for a TX100 demo. I just hope they come out soon and with good detailed shootout reviews.
Just remembered this....
Sony Dark Projector Screens
Sony might be about to push front projection in a big way. The delay in Intel getting LCoS to market may make them slightly less aggressive
EDIT: Latest news from avs: 3rd hand info from Sony Dealer in USA. HS51 will be out stateside about october time. Will be LCD, not SRXD . Will have 'industry leading' contrast ratio and will be a bigger improvement on the HS20 than the HS20 was on the HS10.
Lower prices SRXD PJs to follow soon but no dates given.
(Are we supposed to post links to avs ? Does it count as a 'rival forum')
Surely the Panasonic ae700 has (or will have hopefully) an 'industry leading' contrast ratio at 2000:1? If the Sony beats this then I'll eat my hat.
There can be (and usually is) a world of differnce between manufacturers quoted CR figures and real-world measurements taken by competent calibration experts - check cine4home's site to find out. Making assumptions at this stage about projectors which haven't even surfaced at trade shows is heroic.............................
As for the hat, if the need arises I'm sure we could rustle up a nice construction site one for you.........................
today sanyo released the specs from the z3.
Here a pdf in english and
a pdf in german, but with pics from the menu.
And finally a translated
page from sanyo japan.
p.s. and sorry for my english
