hi,just a question to see if anybody can put me out of my missery.
ive had the z2 a couple of weeks and been impressed with the dvd picture,so i decided to try out sky digital(not sky+) for the footy.seeing as i have the regular sky digital i thought i needed a
scart to s-video cable,so i went for 1 of these:

Scart plug to S-video plug (signal OUT of scart), 10m from keene.

ive been playing with the settings on the z2,firstly changing imput1 to s-vid and the only image i get is in black and white.i also went through the other menu(pal/secam/ntsc,etc)but no luck.

am i missing something obvious here?

    thx,Mark.

Does the Scart on a Sky Video box actually output an SVideo signal?

SVideo seperates the luminance and the chrominance (Brightness and Colour) as seperate signals. If you plug a Scart SVideo feed into a Telly without SVideo capabilities it will pick up the brightness signal but ont the Colour signal so the TV will produce a black and white signal because the colour has gone missing.

the sky box i have definately doesnt output a svideo signal, only 2 scart outputs and a rf.i was under the impression that this cable would allow me to get a scart rgb picture on the z2 though:zonked: .
is there any other lead that will allow me to do this?

Well to acheive the best quality results I bought a Scart RGB to Svideo converter from Keene, think it was abount £60.. I don't think you can do it with just a cable (waits to be proved wrong)..

I've read good things about the converters available from J.S. Technology ( www.js-technology.com ) elsewhere on AV Forums, although I've never used one myself.

keene do a RGBs scart to 15pin HD that is about £25. Works on my Z2 and RGB out on digibox.

If you look at the Keene website it says ok for Sanyo Z1 but works on Z2, SBB 92S I think and youll need a 45073 as well!

    missery update;

having recieved the cable and adapter you recommended nunew33;im still having a slight problem, i wonder if you could help me out if possible?

just after trying to get the projector setup for the match this afternoon and im getting no signal being sent/recieved.

i tried every setting on the input2 selection screen and no luck.
then i examined the cable and i noticed that 1 of the pins was missing on the end of the rgb scart 15 pin hd.am i right in thinking there should be 3 rows of 5 pins(hence the name:zonked: )however i have 5 pins on top row, 4 in the middle row(2nd from right is missing!) and 5 on bottom row.would this missing pin be the problem?.

this is the second cable keene sent,as they sent me the wrong lenght cable the first time

Oh this all sounds so familiar........Haven't been here in a while, but Mark let me introduce myself. My name is Mark and I live in Ireland, have a Z2, have a lead from Keene, have a digibox and no picture.....Is there a mirror in here?

But seriously nunew33 can vouch for me. I had problems with this lead for my DVD, it just wouldn'd hold the picture, that was once I got a picture, so I changed the DVI adaptor and just bought one in PC World and it has locked in the picture since, so IMO the Keene adaptor doesn't seem to make a perfect connection. I have my Sky routed through the DVD but I can't get a signal - sometimes green screen with interference- that's all, but nunew33 also had a problem with the Panny digibox. Not too worried about sky for now.

PS only 14 pins on lead

    Mark

thx for the reply(also in ireland btw :)).
ill look for a replacement dvi adapter then, the 1 i have is a bit flimsy was only £4/5.would scart to dvi be better than a component to component from dvd to z2?

Comp->Comp would be better, Scart is RGB slightly lower in the food chain...not that I would probably see the difference.

My Philips Astaire Delux came with a scart to component adaptor .which is connected directly to the Philips via a Vivanco Av controller, which has 5 rgb imputs &Aux umput for S/video on the front so I am able to switch between Sky ,Game Cube, XBox &DVD. For you guys in Ireland I bought it in Belfast,I cant remember the name of the place but it is opposite Inst College.
Hope this is of some help. Jim

    Hi,

I habe been following this topic for a while and have come to the conclusion that a simple RGBs to VGA followed by VGA to DVI will work from some output devices and not on others. I beleive it depends on the output characteristics on the composite line 19 from the SCART plug. This is the line which the Z2 uses to sync the picture. Unfortunately I believe the level spec. for the composite signal and the level spec. for the sync line need by the Z2 don't quite overlap so some people have success and some don't.

Statistically it would appear that digital set top boxes and satellite receivers seems to output rather weak sync signals that appear to give the Z2 the most problems. I have tried my SCART to DVI-I cable on two Z2s feed from two set top boxes. One gives intermittent picture the other doesn't lock at all. I am still looking for a neat inexpensive solution to this problem myself.

    See also the thread:

    Z2 and RGB Scart

    Good Luck SP

My first thought, so I checked all the connections.

nothing has changed - will do a pin check tonight even though nothing has been disconnected

Just received and tried the Keene SCART to DVI lead and unfortunately my Z2 can't seem to sync with my digibox. Picture flashes, nearly locks for a split second then goes again !

It just so happens I'm replacing my digibox tomorrow with a much newer PACE so I'm hoping I'll get lucky.....

    Will post an update

    It works !!!

Extremely impressed with picture quality - seeing the posts about viewing sky via a PJ led me to expect a real sh***y picture.
