I am looking to get one of those Philips 962SA DVD players which according to many members of this forum can do true NTSC PS and PAL PS.

I have had an initial disaster with the Lecson 1000 but it did made me aware of something.....

When using the component inputs on the PLV-30 the video menu offers you a choice of 480i, 480p, 525p, 720p, 1080i (not certain about the last one is was 1000 something).

This forums had a lot of talk about PAL PS and that true PAL PS outputs 625p.

Does this mean that the Sanyo PLV-30 can not handle true pal progressive scan? Does anyone has a PLV-30 and is running PAL PS?

    Thanks,

    Jean-Paul

    Gordon, Noman,

I am glad to hear that the projector can do it as I am really happy with this little projector's performance.

But how come the 625p option is not in the menu? Is it on your projectors? Should I just leave it set to automatic, and how can I then check to see what signal is being received?

Sorry for all the questions, I am really new to PAL PS.

    Regards,

    Jean-Paul

    Leave it to auto.
Some of the lines are not visible, therefore the 2 different figures. I think the extra lines carry info for Text, V-sync etc.

If I´m wrong I´m sure someone will correct me ;)

I have just posed this question on the DVD forum:eek:

I have exactly this set up, the Sanyo is in Auto and the results are excellent :) :)

But I would still like to know where the rest of the lines have gone to ???

Hope somebody can explain this, as I know it will start to bug me, the longer the questions stays unanswered.

    Cheers for any replies.

technically, isn't NTSC 525, and PAL 625? But realistically you get 480 lines in NTSC and 576 in PAL?

So for PAL progressive you'd want a 576P

I guess its difficult as there isn't agreement on a standard yet. I hope these early 'hacks' will be compatible...

And it can definitely handle 1080i, in case you have a HiDef tape player, can't it Gordon...

I wondered about that 1080, whatsort of performance do you get and what is capable of outputting that signal.

Thanks for the answer, I think I get the idea, seems we are still in the early stages of all this PJ HC lark and nothing is set in stone.

Bit ( no pun ) like the early days of computers, mind you not sure if that has changed much anyway.

You can find the answers in this thread. Bear in mind that although comments about the PLV30's performance were less than glowing, we had just been watching the HiDef tapes on a 9" CRT and a £9k DLP Sharp 9000.

    Cheers,
    Liam

The Sanyo does not have 576p nor 625p in the menu, but it can do PAL PS. I am totally confused now....

I trust you guys when you say it works, I do like this projector and think it is very good quality at this price point. However I want to be able to understand.....

Dont worry, its all ok,as I said I am using this exact same set up and it works perfectly with the Sanyo left on Auto setting.

Seems that DVD players, projectors and TV all have different ways of quoting the same thing.

Its a bit like octane or star rating for petrol, you just have to assume the manufacturers know what they are doing in most cases.

No doubt there are isolated cases where problems occur, but rest assured your system will work fine.

The Sanyo does have a 576p option and handles progressive PAL signals faultlessly when set to this or auto.

    DamianD,

Do do this to me man....I was just happy that it would process it when set to Auto. I just handled the psychological barrier of never really knowing whether it is in PAL PS as the PLV-30 doesn't tell me...And now you say it has the menu option..........

WHERE IS IT....AHHHHH I am going crazy here....

(Please note that the above is dramatised a little.....) :clown:

Where can I find this menu option and are there different software revisions for the PLV-30? I only bought mine in February this year....

    Talk to me DamianD.

    Cheers,

    Jean-Paul

You can manually set it to 575p, but why would you want to, just leave it in auto. My Sanyo is 3 weeks old and the manual says 575p not 576p and it works fine with that.

It works, dont listen to anything else, stop reading this thread.

    sorry to shout, but

IT WORKS 100% WITH A PHILIPS 962 IN PAL PROGRESSIVE.

    :D :D :D

Thanks Karkus, although I do not have than manual option in my PLV-30.

Anyway, I have been able to do progressive scan now!!! I bought a cheapish VGA-COMPONENT converter and hooked up my only PC which is actually a LINUX server, router, gateway, mailserver, database server etc....

Anyway I was able to output a picture like I have never seen before, played a DVD (under Linux!!!) which looked awesome. And this was on some very basic low quality pc-components. I am now going down the route of building an awesome HTPC.

Thanks for all the feedback, and my confidence in my Sanyo PLV-30 has been restored.

    Regards,

    Jean-Paul

I have checked it again and guess what....Of-course I have the 575p option in the manual menu. I also have a 1040i and a 1080i, there are loads :D :D

My excuses is the fact that I am blonde!!! If the translation from Dutch does not work in this sentence, just think of me as being from Essex :clown: :clown:

    Cheers,
