I've just bought mission stance speaker stands for my B&W 601S3 and want to sand fill them. I have bought play pit sand from homebase and have baked this in the oven to futher dry it. It is now very dry and fine.

Is this still likely to absorb moisture over time and rust my stands?

Using stands on carpet and floor spikes don't quite penetrate carpet - any tips, such as marble floor tiles etc? or should I just force them right through carpet onto the concrete

Also any recommendations/advantages for using supplied top spikes - currently using blue tack instead

Mix in silica balls with the sand, as they absorb moisture (same stuff you get in them little packs)

B&Q and other places like Focus sell kiln dried sand, only about 2 quid a bag.
