    Hi,

I acquired a pair of sand-fillable speaker stands.

How does filling it with sand make a difference in the sound of my bookshelfs ?

How do I know how much sand to fill ?

    Please advise. Thank you !

The idea is that it will deaden any resonances arising from the stands, and also provide a heavier support for the speakers.....in practice it can work very well...easiest way to see if it makes any difference for your speakers is to use the stands without sand filling first, then fill the stands and see if there is any difference.
Ideally, the stands should be almost completely filled, with dry sand,of course.

Make sure you have a good contact between the speaker and the stand, use little rubber feet or blobs of blue tack under the four corners of the speaker.
