Their entry level plasma in the US is supposedly the H5000, which has the same AV filter as the F8500 series but priced around the F5500 price point. Pretty appealing as the big let down of the F5500 is that it's overly reflective with light no filter, with the F8500 and Panny's being out of my budget. Part of me wants to buy a F5500 now, but an av filter would definitely be worth it for me.

Interested in this too - pity they couldn't release these at the start of the year. Then 'we' could have made a decent comparison with the last Panny models .....

    Hi All,

Here is a review for the USA version of the 64" H5000 Plasma from HDTVTest:

Samsung PN64H5000 (USA) Plasma TV Review

Apparently, the 2014 H7000 Series has now been scrapped according to David MacKenzie. I was really quite forward to seeing what the H7000 would bring & am sad that Samsung have now decided not to release it.

    Suave!

Thanks for that, the worrying thing is the lack of anti reflective filter. I don't know if this means no filter or a poor one. No filter plasmas are big grey mirrors with any light in the room and are much more of an issue to most than minor image issues.

'One other point here relates to the PN64H5000’s anti-reflective screen filter – or lack thereof. Simply put, like most budget plasma TVs, this is not a display that you would want to put in a room with any bright sunlight. More expensive PDPs like the discontinued Panasonic VT and ZT feature advanced anti-reflective filters which reject light that hits the panel from above (effective in fighting overhead light from ceiling lamps, etc). These can decrease the light output of the panel relative to the power consumption needed to drive it, though. As a result of not featuring such a finish, the Samsung H5000 plasma is much better suited to a dark room, or nighttime viewing.'

Where did you hear that? I know the H series plasmas are really just a tweak on the F series, but I'd have thought we should still get a low, mid and high range option. H5000 series in the US are really very basic indeed. Very good value for a large screen, but no Smart and no 3D. I would expect the H8000's around the middle of the year, but based on current trends, I wouldn't expect to see any new plasma's from Samsung next year. It's almost like this years are a token gesture after Panasonic's exit.

Urgh. 1080p vertical resolution-only pentile subpixels on a large PDP. Run, don't walk, to F8500 remaining stocks.

Emailed Samsung asking if they plan on bringing the f8500 back to the UK market here's hoping they will or at the very least reply to the email. ;)
