Samsung volume goes up and down on its own

I have a Samsung LCD LE40F71BX/XEU which I purchased in Jan 07. Last night I turned the TV on and the volume went up to 100% on its own and I'm unable to change it using the remote control or panel buttons. I turned the TV on and off a few times then the volume started going up and down on its own. Also, the panel buttons are behaving strangely, if I press the menu button it changes my settings to options I didn't choose..

Has anyone seen this before ?

yeah...you sure your neighbour hasn't a samsung as well?

try doing a factory reset.

i think you do it on this model by pressing (while set is in standby) press this button sequence on remote control

INFO

MENU

MUTE

POWER ON

and the service menu shoul appear then find the reset option. be careful not to alter anything else in this menu though.
