Plasma, simply as you won't be able to get a flagship one again

There should be reviews of both on here but the Panasonic is a reference model

The Samsung ue65f8000 is also being advertised as being awarded the AVF reference standard
I haven't been able to track down the AVF review yet though, I can't find it in the 4 part owners thread.

Who's advertising it as reference? I'm sure Stuart and Phil would be interested.

By the way the VT50 is an old model, if you have to get a Panny plasma for £2800 you could afford the ZT65 now but the VT65 is 99% identical really and cheaper. Not sure I'd be spending £2800 on one of last years plasmas though, I assume you're not bothered about 4k at all? £3300 would get you the Samsung F9000 4K LED for example. Up to you at the end of the day I just think £2800 is a lot of money to spend on a 1080p TV , granted there ain't a lot of 4k content available at the moment but that's undoubtedly gonna change over the next 12 months. I wouldn't buy a Panny plasma personally cos I reckon theyre overpriced for the performance you get with DFC being one of the main bugbears but don't ignore image retention either, the VT65 wasn't as bad as the VT50 for it but its still something to be aware of...

I'm guessing OP meant VT65, I disagree, its a stunning set and DFC is greatly reduced from the 50 going by the sets I've seen.

Id not get 4k yet as theres little content and you could end up with a set that cant show 4k content correctly in the future.

4k LCD v a reference plasma? Know where my money would go.;)

The 'AVF Reference Status' logo appears on the screen when it is advertising Samsungs 'Smart Hub' so maybe it relates to that and not the actual tv. photo added, its not a good photo as I had to be quick before the image changed, but you can see the logo on the bottom left.:)

Samsung were awarded the Reference Badge last year for their Smart TV system. They asked for permission to use the badge against their Smart TV system for in-store promotion and looking at the picture above, they are doing exactly that, but thanks for raising the point and I hope that clears things up.
