Question Samsung UE43J5500 remote control only works within 6ft of TV!

Just purchased the 43" Samsung Smart TV. Thought I may have been supplied dud batteries as remote could only muster a command at all within about 6ft of TV. Swapped for new batteries. Also cleaned front of remote. Re-programmed Sky remote for this TV this evening and now SAME with THAT! All of a sudden has vastly reduced it's range by at least half! Could anybody explain why or help me with this please?

If two remotes give the same results then it sounds like the TV.
