This tearing issue is clearly affecting some & not others. Is it luck, a bad batch or restricted to specific sizes / models. If you have a Samsung LE32RXXXX or a LE23RXXXX or a LE26RXXXX or a LE40RXXXX LCD TV & have tested 60hz material on Component, HDMI or VGA then please can you post the following information :

    TV model no - e.g. LE26R41B

    Tearing Seen - Y or N

Which inputs was it seen on - e.g HDMI only

What equipment produced the tearing ? - e.g. XBox

    Cheers Guys !

There is also a 23" model (LE23R41B) in this range so it's probably worth including this too as I know a few members are considering buying one. This set lacks the DVI/ HDMI inputs but does support component @720p/ 60hz.

    Tv Model No. LE23R41B

    Tearing Seen - No

I have tested using a modded Xbox running a number of US, Jap & PAL games in 480p/60hz and also a couple of US games running in 720p / 60hz mode. No problems experienced at all.

    TV model no: LE32R41B

    Tearing Seen - Y

Which inputs was it seen on: HDMI

What equipment produced the tearing: Powerbook playing both (SD) DVDs and HD H.264 material (480p).

A quick note: in my experience, this problem seems to be related to the TV "latching" badly to the output frequency of the source. I've seen the tearing both when my Powerbook was set to output 720p at 60Hz (NTSC) and at 50Hz (PAL): when the tearing effect (!) was on, it was pretty bad. Changing the Powerbook output from 60Hz to 50, or vice-versa, removed the problem. This has happened to me only a couple of times. I've used the TV through HDMI for several days now, and switched the Powerbook back and forth from 50Hz to 60Hz and the problem has not reappeared.

I've tried 480p over component (soft-modded xbox) 480p over VGA and 720p over VGA and haven't seen any tearing at all.

If there's a way of running 720p stuff (emulators, media centre etc) without getting the Xbox banned from Live, I'll gladly test it out.

You can run anything, just as long as you delete anything suspect before going back on live as far as I'm aware.

    lol, sorry - LE32R41B

Thanks, but I have no idea how to do that - I just picked up the Xbox yesterday and did the soft-mod (splinter cell hack) to enable NTSC video modes.

If anyone can help, could you PM me? (to keep it out of this thread as it's off-topic)

I don't have any HDMI inputs,

But I run my xbox at Hi Def over Component,
I've also watched a lot of 60Hz NTSC films on a Progressive DVD player also over Component.

Is it fairly safe to assume that the tearing people have seen on their Xboxs is caused by the Xbox itself? We should maybe only test things we KNOW for a fact don't tear already, like DVD players.

If its the X-Box why arent we all seeing it? Can I suggest that as many of us as possible try the same 720p game ?

I've got Tony Hawkes Pro Skater 4 (Saw tearing within minutes) & SC2 (never seen it on this though). Can anyone else try these ?

    BTW - Theres a full list of 720p & 1080i games over at HDTVArcade.com.

Well, some players do tear. It could be that certain players could be causing it in 720p maybe? (perhaps at parts on a disc with a higher than usual bitrate? I don't know, I'm just speculating here)

With the Xbox there's really too much to factor in. With media centre it's homebrew software, so you can't really go by that to be honest. As for games, loads of Xbox games have v-sync disabled these days, as it's no longer a requirement, and as devs try to push the system harder, more and more games are framing-out and tearing. It certainly wouldn't surprise me in 720p, as the hardware simply wasn't designed to be powerful enough to run games at that resolution.

Framerate might be perfect 99% of the time in some games, but there could be locations / events that happen and cause it to drop some frames and tear, but due to the random nature of a game it may not occur for someone else in that same general area.

Yeah, I agree that the Xbox is a tough one. Xbox games sometimes tear, whereas GameCube and I think PS2 ones drop whole frames instead when its getting busy (instead of doing what the Xbox does and showing bits of frames).

What players - do you mean ones that have trouble reading discs with 9000+kbit/sec discs?

    Samsung LE32R41BX

    Tearing seen - N

Xbox modded, watched many films, divx / xvid, dvd, using media centre in either 720p or 1080i.
Been playing mostly MTV VS ATV unleashed at 720p or 1080i, spent several hours on it, not seen any tearing.

I'm lead to believe there could be a faulty batch of samsungs out there.

Sorry to say, but the 26" tears, too. Looking through this thread, it appears everyone with the digital version have no tearing, correct?

    Model No LE26R41BX

    Tearing Yes

Input: Component 720P on soul calibur 2 and fifa street. I`m 100 percent sure it`s not a v sync issue as it`s slightly different.

Will give samsung a ring to see what they on the matter, but if they don`t sort it i`m not to bothered as it`s a great tv apart from this minor problem and the xbox 360 will be going onto the vga port anyway which has no probs by the look of it.

I suggest to everyone experiencing it to give samsung customer care a ring on 0870 2420303 so they can see it`s a general fault. I phoned them today and said they would pass the issue onto samsung technical support and would ring me back within 2 days. But if they have quite a few people reporting the same issue they will be more inclinded to look into a solution as he said it`s the first he`s heard of it. It`s a fault i can easily live with but it would be all the better if they fix it. It only a 3 minute call so get dialing.

Yes I think I have noticed it on Soul Calibur at 720P.....I haven't watch a DVD via component yet so will do that and check for tearing. As it stands I think it is a very minor issue but if it happened more regularly I would log it as a problem...

I'll have to get hold of Fifa Street... I bet it looks awesome... do you have any other HD supported games?

Got Amped 2 the other day and this game is truely breathtaking in 720p. The graphics are so sharp and detailed and the draw distance a head of you is huuugeee. High recomend it if you like snowboarding games as it is a pretty decent game aswell.

As for samsung phoning me back, well they should of phoned me back tuesday and it`s now thursday and no sign. They tried putting me through to the technicians twice but unavailable :( Will keep trying until i get an answer so will keep you posted.
