i live in the south east and i can't find this model in stock anywhere, neither can any of the stores give any idea of a delivery date.does anyone know what the problem is?also what could the reliability and life expectancy be expected to be? even unbeatable can't give a date.

I spoke to a guy at John Lewis months ago before the TV was even launched and he seemed like he really knew his stuff. Essentially 3 types of TV, Plasma, LCD and DLP. Plasma is old technology and will burn out, LCD does not suffer same burn out probs but v expensive and cannot get really large, DLP great value and picture and do not suffer burn out - you just need to replace the bulb. Do not believe anyone who tells you it is every couple of years - that is BS. Samsung website says after 8,000 hours need replacing but then just as good as new. It seemed like a no brainer to me - especially when I asked this guy if he had 2-3k what would he buy and he said DLP.

I saw the SP50L7HX in John Lewis Bluewater this morning. It looked amazing.

The 50 in DLP screen certainly looked much clearer than all the other Plasma and LCD screens in the same demo room.

Bearing in mind that DLP screens have better PQ and are much cheaper than comparable sized LCD and Plasma screens, it makes you wonder why you would want to buy anything else. :)

I think it must be that popular! I hope that's the reason or maybe samsung are holding back the stock for some reason? They have launched a newer version (with 1080p) in the states but I don't expect to see it over here until late '05 or '06.

I've seen one in comet and currys in solihull but not sure how much stock they have - at 3K i've not bothered asking. I asked at john lewis in touchwood yesterday and they have no stock in their warehouse and they won't be putting one out on the shop floor.

I'm keeping an eye on www.unbeatable.co.uk as their 2.4K price tag is the cheapest i've seen.

    Cheers

I ordered the SP50L7HX on Unbeatable's website on Sat 19th Feb. They emailed me this morning to ask when I wanted delivery and are delivering tomorrow! Their website still shows "Awaiting Stock from Supplier" so maybe they aren't stocking this in the warehouse anymore and are just ordering direct from Samsung when anyone places an order with them? You may be waiting a while for their website to show "In Stock" so I'd advise you to place an order if you really want the TV...

    Hi Gaffer,

I am very interested in purchasing this TV from Unbeatable. If you could be kind enough to post your experience with Unbeatable and how the TV is in real use (rather than on dissplay in shop) I would be very greatful.

    Thanks

I would have been very happy to post my experiences with this TV. Unfortunately, I live in a 4th floor apartment and Samsung have seen fit to house the TV in a box which is the size of an average central London flat. This meant that Unbeatable's courier (City Link) were unable to get it into my lift and since they only send one man with their van were also unable to (and unwilling to) lug 50+ Kg of TV up four flights of stairs (can't say that I blame them really).

Unbeatable did all they could to help and even tried to get a courier that specialises in Plasma TV deliveries to re-deliver it, but the lift is the problem, and the couriers weren't prepared to unbox it in the van and try and get it in the lift like that, as they won't take liability for damage if it is out of the box (and I didn't fancy 2.5K's worth of liability on myself).

So, the TV is now heading back to Unbeatable's warehouse and they are giving me a full refund and I am now looking for something that isn't packaged as though the manufacturers are expecting it to survive a nuclear missile strike. I may go for the Sagem HD-D45 instead, as long as I can find out the dimensions of the box...

I don't know if Unbeatable will allocate the SP50 to someone else who's waiting (they should) or if it will appear as "In Stock" on their website, but whoever ends up getting it I hope that you have better luck getting it into your house than I did...

Lol, oh well - unlucky with the size of the box!

You should have got a mate round and carried it in yourselves or unpacked it and stuck it in the lift.

The box for the Sony 50" LCD RP is quite ridiculous too. I had to bring it in through the patio at the back, and that was after taking the doors off!!

Wonder when we will see the birth of flat pack TV's..............?

Hi - dont know if anyone knows but comet have the sp50l7hx for £2500 on their site and currys for £2284. Comet will price match currys as well and give you i think 10% of the difference back. Thats what i did and the tv was delivered this morning. they were supposed to install it but due to a mistake on their end they cant install it until tuesday so now ive got the tv just sitting there boxed up :(
