Before we will talk about non easy things let's begin with naming convention of Samsung LCD TV
For example Model is LE40M87BD:
- L - LCD
- E - Europe model. May use A- Asia&Africa N - Korea, South America (North America too but use another structure after that)
- 40 - diagonal size
- M8 - serie of TV
- 7 - digit from 1 to 9 for some minor modifications in appearance
- B- Black - Case Color. May be W - White
- D- DVB-T tuner. May be C - Cable DVB-C, H - Hotel TV. May omit.
There are:
- Model: LE40M87BD [R] S
- Model Code: LE40M87BDX/XEU
To differ Model & Model Code add X to last
XEU - Regional code. Mainly affect to analog & digital tuner standards
Possible values for Europe
FID - Finland
XEC - Spain
XEE - Sweden
XEG - Germany
XEF - France
XEH - Holland???
XET - Italy
XEU - UK
Full list of actual models is in attach Excel file.
View attachment samsung.xls
Info dated July 2007.
Include info about installed panels, latest main & DTV firmwares
After understanding that we will talk about series only

During last 4 month I learned different Samsung firmwares for Europe
The results are in Russian forum
http://forum.ixbt.com/topic.cgi?id=62:10800
Now I am ready to share my knowledge in poor English :)

You need at minimum to enter in Service Menu
Some info from Service Manual:
To enter "Service Mode" Press the remote - control keys in this sequence :
From Standby Info-Menu-Mute-Power On
- The buttons are active in the service mode.
Remote - Control Key : Power, Arrow Up, Arrow Down, Arrow Left, Arrow Right, Menu, Enter, Number Key(0~9)

If you need just to show settings please
- DON'T USE: Arrow Left, Arrow Right, Number Key(0~9)
- Use Arrow Down, Arrow Left for moving withing current level of menu
- Use Enter to go in submenu
- Use Menu to return back higher level menu
- DON'T Enter to submenu Calibrate, Reset at all !!!
- Use Power to exit from "Service Mode"

Even on first page of Service Menu you are able to understand:
- platform
- Chipset (videoprocessor and audio chips)
- FW versions

Standard Trident Service Menu
nmsl1006.jpg
Standard MediaTek Service Menu
snm1008.jpg
Standard Genesis Service Menu
trn1024.jpg
Standard Macro Image Technology Service Menu
npl1025.jpg

First of all about possible platforms/projects
There are not so many:
Series Letters_in_FW CodeName Announce Date
A3 NPL Naples Summer 2004
T5 TRN Torino Spring 2005
R4/5 ROME Rome Spring 2005
M5/6 MIL Milano Summer 2005
S7/R7 SNM Sonoma Spring 2006
S7/R7 BRD Bordeaux Spring 2006
N/M/F7 M9 MSL Mosel Summer 2006
R8 BDP Bordeaux+ Spring 2007
As you may see all codename above - cities
But from M8 tradition is changed to flowers
M/N8 TLP Tulip Spring 2007
S8/R8 JSM Jasmine Spring 2007
F8 PON Peony Summer 2007
F9 ??? Rose Summer 2007

Above platforms with FW discribe all major specs of your TV:
- Chipset
- List of supportng panels
- All possible (and even blocked by vendor) features

Actually list of project more big
You may check it via Manual database
http://ibbank.net/manual/guest_main.asp?cok=
But a lot of projects had the same platform
For example Mosel platform had:
- FHD Mosel for F7
- New Mosel for N7
- LED Mosel for M9
- Mosel for M7
Again exist different names just for different tuners.

Information about possible panels and different settings will follow

Thus during last couple years Samsung used mainly different generations of Trident chipsets:
SVP-EX for R4/R5 and M5/M6 series (Rome and Milano platforms)
SVP-PX for S7, R7, N7, M7, M9 series (Bordeaux and Mosel platforms)
SVP-UX/WX for R8, N8, M8, F8, F9 series (Bordeaux+, Tulip, Peony and Rose platforms)

Just low end series used MediaTek. In the past Samsung used also Genesis & Macro Image Technology
MediaTek MT8202 for S7, R7, S8, R8 (Sonoma & Jasmine platforms)
Genesis FLI5921 for T5 series (Torino platform)
Macro Image Technology MDIN-150 for A3 (Naples platform)

As you may see when you buy S7/R7/S8/R8 series you may receive ABS different TV

Detective story continue ...

Ok
Let's go from common information to more detail
But it's nessasary to talk about specific firmware.
Just in concrete version you may find info about supporting panels.
In many cases I have information about versions of firmware, but doesn't have possible values list.
In this case I need assistance of owners
Without your help this project will be dead.

Info Format will be following:
Name of TV/Platform
1a. Link to photo (а lot of typo I saw)
1b. Firmwares versions
2. List of supporting panels and where you may find it
Some info may omit

Ok let's begin from this year lines - Bordeaux+ and Tulip platforms

As R/M/N8 platforms based on the same Trident chipset, lists of panels are identical and include possible panels for all series
They store in two fields of Service Menu/2.Option Table

I need your photos:
- main page of Service Menu
- 2. Option Table Page

Some explanations about FW info in different lines
1. First line is most important part of FW
All settings of Service Menu stored in this part
Usually FW naming on this part
2. Second line - I amn't have idea what is it.
But it changes very rare.
3. Mainboard firmware. BTW Samsung use the same mainboard for LCD and PDP TV (See Service Menu of 42Q97HD).
cal1008.jpg
4-5. date & time of FW

This is for latest Trident platforms (M/N/R8 TV). Other series may have slightly different appearance.

Now let's talk about Mediatek 2007 platform - Jasmine
There are two version of this platform:
1)
- Pure Mediatek in S8 series

You may see that S8 are the same as previous generation S7 but with worse panels including TN
jsm1010_2c.jpg
But more important - Samsung again (as he made in 2006 http://www.avforums.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5302188&postcount=10 ) use for one R8 line absolutely non comparable platform: low cost Mediatek developed in 2005 and newest Trident SVP-UX from 2007.

Only one possibility to know which TV you have - to check Service menu

Interesting stuff, I had a hunch that Samsung were using the Tridnet chips. Genesis being on the cheaper ones is interesting as well, seeing as the Genesis deinterlacing is much better than the Trident-based stuff (or have I just been unlucky?)

Genesis being on the cheaper ones is interesting as well, seeing as the Genesis deinterlacing is much better than the Trident-based stuff (or have I just been unlucky?)
You are unlucky:)
Samsung used very basic Genesis FLI5921, not comparable with Trident.
Even current high end chipset from Genesis doesn't have ME/MC which Trident SVP-UX had.

This is interesting, because the last Trident-based Sonys I've used (KDL-32V2000, and KDL-40W2000, the latter of which uses the Trident SVP-LXS) haven't been wonderful in terms of Deinterlacing. They seem to be using no Interpolation at all on the jaggies and the only Film Mode they properly engaged was for NTSC 3-2, they didn't do PAL 2-2 or 1080i 3-2 properly.

Do you know if the current-gen Trident chipsets support those cadences? Have Sony just not implemented it properly? (The SVP-LX also supports Picture In Picture, which Sony chose not to add to the W2000 series... makes you wonder what untapped potential is in there).

Do you know if the current-gen Trident chipsets support those cadences? Have Sony just not implemented it properly?
I don't have detail specs for 7-th Gen SVP-UX, just some info for low end chip SVP-WX from the same generation
http://www.tridentmicro.com/ReadNew...me=Trident&SmallClassName=release&SpecialID=0
and a lot of remarks during investor conference (Q/A section is very interesting)
http://www.tridentmicro.com/site/investors/Q2-FY2007 TRID transcript-final.pdf
Previous generation as SVP-LX are support all those cadences.
New gen include features previous one usually

Sony W3000&V3000 will use 7thGen Trident for sure.
About implementation :( - let's see Service Manual, Service Menu settings and user reports

Let' talk a little bit about 2006Y series
Most unpredictable series are S7 and R7
They may use two platform: Bordeaux on Trident and Sonoma on Mediatek
You may know it only after checking Service menu
All knowing for me R7 with Sonoma platform are Made in Hungary

Let's begin with Bordeaux firmwares

hi, thanks for answer but i already know my firmware version and its already in your database as well.

i just need help with value of Demod Prescaler, it shows up when you go to 6. SGTV5810/NTP3000 in service menu , unfortunately i wasnt able to find any photo or information about this item anywhere on net. any chance you could help me? thanks
I need photo of your 6. SGTV5810/NTP3000 screen
I amn't owner of M8 TV, but I ask russian owners which don't afraid to enter Service Menu:)

I am interested in 2.Option Table photos too

Would be great...

Actualy i have LE40N87BD which have repro on sides and do not have super clear panel like M87, otherwise it should be same... I think the Demod Prescaler value should be same on both N87/M87, they share manual etc.

Would be great if you could find today the value I'm looking for. Many thanks.

Firmware:

Menu of 6. SGTV5810/NTP3000

Demod Prescaler value third on left there...

I requested already

Interesting stuff again, thanks Mikl.

"Light Effect" On or Off... "PDP Filter"... any idea what those do? Also, I wonder what the TV needs to know what size the panel is.

light effect should be that little blue light some samsung tvs have under the tv at the middle, did that make sence? right under the samsung sign..

PDP Filter - make sense just for PDP TV
I mentioned before that Samsung use the same mainboard for Trident based PDP & LCD
Lighting - you may swith off decorating light

Light effect is azure blue glow under the Samsung Logo on N87 serie, which you can turn on/off. When you power on/off tv it slowly fades in/out to appear/disappear. It's actualy very nic effect and it's glow is very little bright so it wouldn't annoy watchers when looking on tv.

n96_f_blue_l.jpg

My R87 Service Menu says June 1 2007 but in my D.Menu the firmware is listed as April 28 2007 T-BDXPDEU00-1007.

Is it possible that the service menu date is purely a manufacturing date and not related to the firmware at all?

Those are different firmwares - one for TV, another for DVB-T tuner
Manufacturing date is in 8-9 signes of SN (for example P6 for June)

Please post photos of Service Menu/Option Table
