Before we will talk about non easy things let's begin with naming convention of Samsung LCD TV
For example Model is LE40M87BD:
- L - LCD
- E - Europe model. May use A- Asia&Africa N - Korea, South America (North America too but use another structure after that)
- 40 - diagonal size
- M8 - serie of TV
- 7 - digit from 1 to 9 for some minor modifications in appearance
- B- Black - Case Color. May be W - White
- D- DVB-T tuner. May be C - Cable DVB-C, H - Hotel TV. May omit.
There are:
- Model: LE40M87BD [R] S
- Model Code: LE40M87BDX/XEU
To differ Model & Model Code add X to last
XEU - Regional code. Mainly affect to analog & digital tuner standards
Possible values for Europe
FID - Finland
XEC - Spain
XEE - Sweden
XEG - Germany
XEF - France
XEH - Holland???
XET - Italy
XEU - UK

After understanding that we will talk about series only
During last 4 month I learned different Samsung firmwares for Europe

Now I am ready to share my knowledge in poor English
You need at minimum to enter in Service Menu
Some info from Service Manual:
If you need just to show settings please
- DON'T USE: Arrow Left, Arrow Right, Number Key(0~9)
- Use Arrow Down, Arrow Left for moving withing current level of menu
- Use Enter to go in submenu
- Use Menu to return back higher level menu
- DON'T Enter to submenu Calibrate, Reset at all !!!
- Use Power to exit from "Service Mode"
Even on first page of Service Menu you are able to understand:
- platform
- Chipset (videoprocessor and audio chips)
- FW versions
Standard Trident Service Menu
Standard MediaTek Service Menu
Standard Genesis Service Menu
Standard Macro Image Technology Service Menu
First of all about possible platforms/projects
There are not so many:
Series Letters_in_FW CodeName Announce Date
A3 NPL Naples Summer 2004

M5/6 MIL Milano Summer 2005
