I have Talktalk freeview box and I can control it through the two Samsung remotes and it does in fact work better than the boxes own remote.

However, there are a couple of functions such as accessing the library and recording programmes which I cannot do through either of the Samsung remotes. Therefore, does anyone now of a way of manually assigning functions to specific buttons on either of the Samsung remotes? I did post this in this in the Q90R thread but no one seemed to know the answer. Thanks for any responses.

Probably because it's doubtful if it can be done. The remote's main purpose is to control every aspect of the TV it's supplied with and it's secondary purpose is to be used as a universal remote to control basic functions such as channel, volume and standby of connected equipment.
You'd need to use a programmable remote like a Harmony to control your TV and TalkTalk box.
