BestAVdeals have the 55” Q8DN up for preorder at a price of £2399. Ridiculous price considering you can get a 55” Q9 for £100 more. I’m glad they released the Q8 fald in UK Europe, but they should have done that from the start imo.

      RTings have this as 8.4 v 8.5 for Q9.

Also, algorithm more important than dimming system.

Doesn’t make any sense. So 320 and 480 zones for resp 55 and 65 just make 0.1 difference versus a 40 zones 55 and 65.
I am starting to seriously loose confidence in rtings...
If true, why bother with so many zones then...seriously...

They’ve rated the Sony X90 ranges highly despite “low” zone count.

As for why go for massive numbers, they needed something supreme and “better” than the rest. Also, it’s not all about dimming zones - implementation is more important. Q9 is aggressive but getting better with updates - in effect Samsung released a beta Q9.

Like I said before, I think they do a good job testing but their methodology/scoring and conclusions don’t often agree with me...

Q8 fald is seen as better than xf9 in their review but they always recommend cheaper.

Reality here is that q8 fald is priced way too high and 40 zones will not help....effective or not versus q9 and oled onslaught.
If 40 is true, they have been incredibly lazy...again. They could have divided the q9 zones by factor 2-3 at least...disappointing.

Samsung's FALD system has always been effective using less zones than Sony's. The KS9500 had less zones than the ZD9 in 2016 and it was very good at local dimming still. Same goes for this year.

Can’t argue with that but they could have done a bit better potentially
Guess the proof is in the pudding. Rtings review is quite good. It will depend on prices as always. At current ones, no chance against oled and xf9 and even against q9 which surprise surprise increased in price...wrong move Samsung...guaranteed.

Does anyone know when in July and the price for the 65"? I was trying to work out what they could price it at given the edge lit 8fn is £2900 and the 9fn is £3800. I'm guessing over £3000, £3200 maybe? Unless they drop the price of the edge lit 8fn and price it at bang on £3000?

I was going to pull the trigger on the LG C8 the other day until I discovered this news now I'm back to mulling things over...

The only store that has a price yet is bestavdeals, and the 65” is priced at £3099. There’s no exact date atm, it just says July.

Does the 65" have only 40 zones too or is that just the 55"?

For a weird reason, it is not clear. Seems 40 zones for both sizes...which is surprising to say the least. But rtings not concerned about zones if local dimming algorithm is good
      @ray0414
the news about the fald took us all by surprise. Any chance you give us the latest please for this tv?
Rating review is good and not clear about the zones. Latest firmware should also have improved things.
What is consensus in us about this tv?

Indeed but the same can be said about any release price. Sometimes as much as 40 percent compared to almost a year later. It would be a mistake to buy a TV when just released, only company changing that year to year seems to be Hisense. The Samsung local dimming isn't as effective but it means you don't get as much haloing which is nice.

My DX902 I feel has over aggressive local dimming and having noticed dimming zones I'd much rather prefer less of that.

Can also depend what you watch, aggressive local dimming for films is great, for football no thanks.

The thing I like about the Q8 is that it has no One Connect box. I can see how this would be useful for some setups, but it would ruin the look of mine, ie a big black box stuck on the top of the unit, with a large loop of clear cable at the back :).

Having browsed the limited reviews and user opinions, it seems the fald Q8 has a lot going for it. It’ll be interesting to see how price drops pan out over the next few months.

No doubt about it, when prices drop, the q8 fald will be a superb buy
Problem is that oled dropped so much that you need lcd to be very competitive

What is sure is: priced right, this tv becomes the real bargain alternative for this year ahead of xf9 as overall package.

Nothing bargain about it right now however so need prices to shed £700-£1000 at least.

And depending on what ElectriQ has planned it may not even matter what the big boys do.

Won’t be long until Q8 is c£1800, I reckon. Samsung’s problem will come further down the range with Q6 and 7. They’re vastly overpriced as it is but will be in no mans land in no time.

Frankly, £1800 is what the q9 should cost now after promotion.
These lcd are way too expensive for what they are. If oled, a relatively new technology can be priced similar and in Europe, much cheaper, then we have a real problem...
People voted and will do again in the future with their wallet. Q8 should be around £1500 now (after £200 promotion)

Why is the Q9F(N?) so cheap in France? in the UK its way more expensive is there a possibility of buying and getting it shipped to UK? Or will the UK get this deal soon? Not sure how though considering the Q8 with local dimming will arrive soon so doubt they would want to undercut that model.

Impossible to justify the ridiculous prices Samsung ask for their TV's.
They will not learn until they have a really bad year of sales.
I just bought a Samsung this year and I'm selling it to buy a new set. I was considering the new Qled series but the prices are just stupid if we start comparing with the competition, so I'm aiming to Sony or LG Oled.
      Bye bye Samsung

If you think France is cheap, just don’t go to Spain as you get nearly the 65 for that price
This is simply rip off Britain and expecting prices to crash when sales figure hit the wall...

      55” XF90 is £1500.

If we’re talking 2018 models the Q9 is priced pretty well, relative to new OLEDs from Sony/LG. Q8 and below are vastly overpriced though.

But given the QLED marketing strategy, pricing relative to PQ may not matter for the vast majority of buyers.
