    Hi,

Must be cursed, as I posted for help for my mates Samsung the other day, and now my 50" plasma has started playing up :(

It turns 'on' when you press the button, but the standy light just flashes 5 times and then nothing. No picture, no sound, no nothing :(

    Anybody any ideas?

I'm hoping its as cheap and as easy as my mates Samsung was - or I've cursed my own and cost me a fortune! lol

    Cheers

Not sure what 5 flashes means on a Samsung but they usually develop power supply faults (Bad capacitors) at around 2-3 years old & give the symptoms you describe although this does not rule out other issues it's perhaps the most likely.

If this is the case & you can find an engineer to work at component level it should not be too expensive, however if you have to replace the power supply it usually costs around £250 plus :(

    Hi,

I have had the back off and the caps all look ok. The only way I would know for sure though is to use a capacitance meter isnt it?
No bulging on them, but the caps was the issue with the other Samsung I did the other day.

Try searching for the fault code (5 flashes) it might give you more of a clue, it might not be the PSU.

Samsung LCD's have the dodgy power supply capacitors, not plasmas.

They do suffer from power supply faults though, and can quite often be dry joints if you catch it early enough. If not, they can go bang!

    :)
