Samsung ps43d450a2 43" plasma v samsung le40d503 40"lcd

The plasma is 720p and the LCD is 1080i.
I sit 2.5m to 3m or so away from the tv.
I have sky hd.

They're both pretty much the same price.

I understand that I may not see 1080i from that distance? I currently have a foehn and hirsch 32" 720p tv that is way too small.

Any help and advice appreciated!

Thanks

Just to add something to the mix, toshiba 40bv701, 1080p, 40,000:1, 50hz.

I notice the Samsung has a 600hz refresh, but a 1024x768 screen. This isn't really 720p is it?

Cheers.

3m away you probably won't see the difference and Sky HD isn't full HD anyhow - only blu-ray and some games are 1080p, full HD. All HD ready TVs can handle a 1080i / 1080p signal - they just scale. The LCD can handle 1080p signals without scaling (i.e. blu ray)

Not read very good things on here about that LCD, poor motion handling especially - the plasma will be better (btw ignore the 600hz refresh spec on plasma, it's how the TV works, not comparable at all to the 50hz/100hz on LCD)

What's the max budget?

Thanks for your reply :).

My max budget today is £350. If I wait another month it becomes £450-£500.

I'm impatient lol. I can't go bigger than 43" as I don't have the room and my tv stand is only "rated" to 42". I aren't interested in 3d.

Cheers!

Happy new year!

If you wait a month, you could get a better TV, but manufacturers cease production in Jan in preparation for the new models which come out every spring and retailers start to clear the old models - so you may get a bargain, or you may set your heart on a TV and then there is no stock

This is a good deal on the Samsung with 5 year warranty, out of stock online right now, but you could try the actual stores or email and wait (I believe JL are expecting lots of TVs in this month)

Buy Samsung PS43D450A2 Plasma HD Ready TV, 43 Inch with Built-in Freeview online at JohnLewis.com

What do you use the TV for and for how long at a time - that is an important consideration

I had noticed that offer on jl as well, very good offer with the warranty! My local jl store closed last year :(.

I watch sports and "normal" tv and DVDs. I don't game.

Tv can be on for upto 16 hours a day depending on what's happening in the house.

Plasma will be fine for those uses - and in relaity you don't need full HD if no blu ray

The other full HD option is the 42S30 from Panasonic which Amazon have for £400 (but 1 year warranty)

I'd probably wait for JL stock myself :)

Thanks vickster :). I will go Bly-ray one day, but the price of the discs puts me off, plus my Phillips DVD player is 5.1 and I don't want to lose the speakers etc. plus I find DVD quality ok..........

Yes, that is the case

If you can find a new one - RS have few in stock and not necessarily new (and you'll need to collect or pay for delivery) - JL have for £550 online delivered with warranty

I doubt it at that price - Amazon had for £450 after Xmas - all gone now

Good luck
