Samsung Plasmas...any good?

I have the Samsung PS42P3S for a month and i am trully disapointed, one of the most crucial things that you have to look is the color range.
Mine is 16 bit but it has only 267 shades of gray that means the grey scale is only 8 bit and believe me it shows.
Look for plasmas with at least 10 bit scale or even better 12 bit like the pionner 434.
Hope that helps.

Taz, you can do better than that, the price differential is nothing like it used to be, just over 2.5k for a panny now, and 1900 for some Korean rubbish, it's a no brainer. Sell your mother, sister, children, whatever. Even give up beer, but get a decent make, even Hitachis are better than Samsung.

That may well be so, but don't tell me you wouldn't love a panasonic or pioneer more? Of course they cost more, some of us have been reading Taz's posts for some time, and know his habits and inclinations in these matters.

Going to bump this up with a question for you.....

If you were offered a brand new 42" Samsung plasma (all legal) for less than £700 would you go for it ???

Hmm, in my position, I wouldn't cross the road to p*** on it if it was on fire, well not if it was plugged in anyway! I suppose for £700 you could try it and if it wasn't up to expectations you could sell it here, or give it to Molly or something, and get a better one. They lack contrast, colour definition, and are prone to solarization. It's like plasma, jim but as if you are seeing it on a foggy day, as Dr McCoy remarked.
