Samsung MU8000 --> Yamaha RX-V679BL HDMI ARC Issues

Long time lurker, first time poster. Thanks for the help in advance.

I bought a new 82" Samsung 8000 series TV. My input source is an ethernet cable. I am using the HDMI 4 (ARC) port on the Sammy to try and push the audio from the streaming apps (Netflix, YouTube TV, etc.) to the Yamaha AVR. I have the HDMI connected to the HDMI ARC OUT port on the Yamaha (and it's an ARC compatible HDMI cable). I can't get any of the audio from the TV to play through my receiver to the surround sound speakers.

When I plug in an HDMI source to the receiver (ex: Roku), I can get the audio from that source to play on the surround sound speakers. I can't seem to figure out why the audio from the streaming apps on the TV can't play through the HDMI ARC Out port.

One other thing - I found on this site that someone said that you need to put some sort of HDMI source in every port in the receiver (even if it's an HDMI cable attached to nothing) to make the HDMI ARC to work. I tried that too - with no luck.

I'd appreciate any help you can provide.

Thanks much!

That last part (attaching HDMI's to every port) could not be more wrong, so pass on that.

Have you turned on ARC on your RX-V679?
Go into the settings and turn it on there, make sure your Samsung audio output is set to ARC and that its CEC connection recognises the Yamaha.

Thanks for your help Dunners. I was able to get the on screen display to work and enable the HDMI Control with ARC on. Everything works great now. Thanks for your help!

For others looking for assistance with this issue, the button on the receiver remote that says "on screen" doesn't just mean that text will appear on the screen of the receiver. It actually provides an on-screen set of system setups for the receiver....but appears on the screen of the TV. My particular receiver shows an image of a violin or cello or something like that. Within this on screen display there is an option to turn the ARC on.

Hope that helps!
