I originally looked at the SONY but thought that the new SONY models won't be out for ages and will cost almost twice as much as the Samsung.

The 46" F86 Sammy is £1380 how much is the SONY 46W3000?

Sorry for 'hi-jacking' but what about between the 46 F86 and the 40 X3/500

How much is the 46" version of the X3000 \ X3500 SONY?

Is it much more than the Samsung at £1384?

What do you get for the extra cash?

The best price is one...No one else has it yet...Only complett...it usually overprices...anyway the price is 2199£ for the 46X3500.But:Other retailers will bring it down. The 46X3000 with different design only will cost 150£ less.So in a month nearly the Sony 46X3000 will cost around 1900£.Your decision.

I would say that the OP's original comparison is somewhat of an odd request - a 46" TV with brand new features like 100hz and 1080/24 (Samsung) costing £1300, vs an older TV of 40" with limited features and an £850 price. Both are good in their own way but they're playing in different ballparks, it's a bit like asking the best car from a Mini Cooper or a Porsche Boxster.

    Still.

I would eliminate the W2000 and look at the X3000 vs the F86. As far as I can see, the F86 has a rather broken 100hz feature, whereas it seems that the Sony's is more highly rated. Otherwise, I would say the panels are broadly equivalent, apart from design and price.

Personally I like the Sammy as 100hz is not good for my uses (playing games, hidef movies etc). I would check both out side by side and make a decision on that.

Actually both TVs are 46" - as stated in the thread title.

The reason for comparing them is that they similar prices.

The SONY X series is double the price and therefore only for those with a lot of cash!

Apologies, I misread the thread title.

If you are comparing on price, the Samsung all the way. I can't think of anything in terms of features or quality where the Sony wins out. Although the Sammy does have a reflective screen which may be a downer if it's facing sunlight and you'll be watching in the day.

To resurrect this thread, and to put my own slant on things:D, what's the general concensus regarding the Samsung LE46F86 and the Sony 46X3500?
Which is considered the better unit?
I should be in the position to buy either one or the other within the next few days, so I'd like to get the best one.
I watch a lot of sports, and play xbox 360. I'll be upgrading to SkyHD in the near future, so a lot of my viewing will be HD, but hid watches a lot of soaps in SD, so I don't want her picture to be crap!
    Thanks for ye're help.
    TT

The sony set that you need to compare to the F86 is the W3000 not the X3000/3500.:smashin:

    Why is that?
I thought the leading model Samsung is the F86, and the leading Sony is the X3500?

Price is irrelevant. I'm looking for the best SD/HD picture quality.

Have considered the Pioneer PDP-428(0)XD plasma, as from general opinion the new Kuro range have the best picture quality going at the minute. But what's turning me off is.....
    1) 42" for the same price as the 46" Samsung
    2) 720p vs 1080p
Thought about the 50" 1080p version of the Kuro too, but I really don't feel like paying the guts of €5000 on a telly. I could get two of the F86 Samsungs for that money!!

So, withing reason, money isn't a factor. What I want is the 46" LCD with the best picture quality.:smashin:

The Sony X3500 without a doubt then.

If you could do with 42' then the Philips 42 PF9732.

Is that just your opinion, or is that the general opinion of most/all on the boards?
Not that I don't trust/respect your opinion, but one man's meat is another man's poison!;)
