samsung LE40C654 vrs sony KDL-40EX503

I want to buy new lcd tv and looking at Samsung LE40C654 and sony KDL-40EX503.

I watch sport and movies 90% of the time.

Can anyone suggest what tv has the best picture quality and sound?

Any major flaws with either?

Someone please help me choose?

both pretty similar,they perform equally.I d go for the sony,for build quality and no panel lottery like the samsung

what do you mean by panel lottery?

that samsung in order to keep good supply,use also other panels than their own S-PVA,which can be either AUO or even CMO(thats the worst case).I personally find unacceptable this varying quality between even same size!for example the 40C654 you see in store might be S-PVA(which is the best out of the other panels) and when you get one home,you examine CMO!!!

This is something that sony doesnt(all EX5 series use S-PVA except the 37" which is AUO but this is logical since S-PVA isnt produced at 37")

I'm interested in the samsung C650. Though is there anyway of checking the panel before you buy it?

its basically in a sticker at the back of the tv,but not outside the box!

I think i've just come to the same conclusion for the money these two tv's offer great value, both at roughly the same price either £650 from RS or £800 from comet with free blueray and photo frame.

Just a shame you can't get the same spec for same price with an LED screen
